All inmate mail uses one shared box: P.O. Box 2199, Blythe, CA 92226. Always write the person's full legal name and CDCR number on the envelope. Don't confuse this with the separate staff mailing box, P.O. Box 2229.

It's an overnight visiting program that started September 1, 2025, using 6 family visiting units inside the secure perimeter. Each visit lasts about 46 hours, and 3 units process in on a given day, with the rotation spread across Monday through Friday so families have different start days to work with. Required paperwork has to arrive at least 72 hours before the visit or it gets canceled.

It's named for the native Ironwood trees that grow in the surrounding desert. CDCR chose the name because the trees share qualities of strength, solidity, and firmness with the institution's mission.

It was activated on February 1, 1994. It sits on about 640 acres of a 1,700-acre state-owned property near Blythe, with the rest of the land used for erosion control, drainage ditches, and catch basins.

ISP is a designated Re-Entry Hub for people within 4 years of release who meet participation requirements. It also runs the Incarcerated Person Education Network Pilot Program, which gives eligible students restricted online access to approved college correspondence courses through the Voluntary Education Program, along with a broader Incarcerated Person College Program.
