How Collect Calls Work

Every call an inmate makes from Holmes County Jail goes out as a collect call through AmTel Communications. That means the person receiving the call, not the inmate, is billed for it. If you want to accept calls from someone at the jail, contact AmTel Communications at 1-800-849-6081 to set up your account for accepting and paying for collect calls.

You Cannot Call In

There’s no option to place a call into the jail and be connected to an inmate. If you need to relay urgent information, you cannot ask Holmes County Sheriff’s Office staff to pass along a personal message. The only way to communicate by phone is to accept a collect call the inmate places to you.

Buying Phone Time Through Commissary

In addition to collect calls billed to the person receiving them, inmates can purchase phone time through the commissary system. This gives inmates another way to fund their own outgoing calls without relying solely on collect billing to a family member.

Setting Up or Troubleshooting Your Account

If you’re having trouble accepting a collect call, setting up billing, or understanding a charge, call AmTel Communications directly at 1-800-849-6081. Because AmTel, not the Sheriff’s Office, manages billing and account setup, they’ll be able to help with call-specific issues faster than jail staff can.

The official Holmes County Sheriff’s Office website doesn’t describe a video visitation or messaging option separate from the AmTel phone system.
