The Florida Department of Corrections runs a free public inmate search at dc.state.fl.us/OffenderSearch/Search.aspx. You can look up anyone in FDOC custody by last name alone. No ID number is required to start. Results show the inmate’s current facility, DC number, sentence details, and projected release date. Because this facility is a reception center annex, newly sentenced inmates often pass through on their way to a permanent facility assignment, so check the search regularly if you know someone was recently sentenced. The DC number is what you need for money deposits, mail, and phone account setup.
Go to dc.state.fl.us/OffenderSearch/Search.aspx. Enter the person’s last name. Click Search. To see a broader list, use a partial last name or %. You can also search by first name, DC number, and race if needed.
Each result links to the inmate’s full profile. The profile shows:
Write down the DC number. You will need it for Correct Pay, mail addressing, and ConnectNetwork/AdvancePay setup.
DC number: The inmate’s permanent Florida DOC identification number. This stays with them for their entire time in FDOC custody, even across transfers.
Custody status: Shows whether the person is currently incarcerated, released, or on some form of supervised status. A released status does not always mean the person left that day, so check the release date field too.
Current facility: This updates when an inmate transfers, but not always instantly. If someone was recently booked into custody, allow a few business days for the profile to show South Florida Reception Center, South Unit.
Sentence information: Shows the offense and sentence length as recorded by FDOC. This is public record.
Newly sentenced: Reception centers like the South Unit process newly sentenced inmates for classification before they are assigned to a permanent facility. A record can show this facility for a period of time and then update to a different one once classification is complete.
Recently transferred: The database can take one to several days to update after any transfer, including a transfer out of a reception center.
County jail: People not yet sentenced are in county jails, not FDOC custody. Contact the county sheriff’s office or use VINE if the person is pre-trial.
Recently sentenced: If someone was sentenced not long ago, there can be a short delay before FDOC intake processes their record into the searchable database.
Released: Released inmates still appear with a released or discharged status. They do not disappear from the system.
Common names: Add a first name or partial first name to narrow results.
The DC number is the inmate’s permanent Florida DOC ID. You need it for money deposits, mail formatting, and phone setup. Keep it in a safe place, since customer service lines for these vendors will ask for it before they can help you.
South Florida Reception Center, South Unit operates as a companion facility to South Florida Reception Center, its parent institution, on the same campus in Doral. When you search for someone here, confirm the result specifically names the South Unit, since a family member could also be listed at the main South Florida Reception Center.
FDOC does not publish a separate daily arrival roster for state facilities the way some county jails do. The Offender Search database itself functions as the ongoing roster, updated as records change. There is no separate daily bulletin to check for this facility, even though intake volume at a reception center can be higher than at a standard prison.
Because this is a reception and classification facility, confirm the inmate is still here before making a trip, sending a deposit, or mailing a letter. Transfers to a permanent facility can happen with little notice once classification is complete. If they transfer, update your mail and phone setup to match the new facility.
The FDOC Offender Search only covers Florida state prison inmates. It does not include county jail bookings, federal inmates, or people held in other states. It also will not show detailed disciplinary history or exact housing unit assignments, which are not public information.
