Overview

Phone calls at Penobscot County Jail run through Securus Technologies, confirmed directly on the Sheriff’s Office’s own website. Calls are outbound only: the person inside calls you, and you cannot dial the jail’s phone system to reach them. To receive calls reliably, set up a Securus AdvanceConnect account, a friend-and-family-owned prepaid account that automatically deducts charges as calls come in. Family members can also dial 207-922-3898 to reach the jail’s automated system from outside.

  • Fund AdvanceConnect by credit or debit card online or by phone, or through Western Union or MoneyGram where available.
  • Securus Inbound Connect, through the Securus mobile app, lets you proactively notify the inmate's personal tablet that you want to connect.
  • Calls are monitored and recorded, standard practice for county jail phone systems.

Why You Cannot Call In

You cannot dial into Penobscot County Jail and reach your loved one directly on the inmate phone system. The person uses jail phones connected to Securus to call approved numbers. Your role is to make sure your number is set up and funded so their call goes through when they place it.

The Automated Information Line

Separately from the Securus call system, family members can dial 207-922-3898 to reach the jail’s automated information line from outside. The Sheriff’s Office describes this as a continuously updated system, useful for checking custody status instead of for the calls themselves. See the inmate search guide for how this line works.

Step 1. Set Up an AdvanceConnect Account

AdvanceConnect is the Securus product built specifically for receiving calls from an inmate: a prepaid account you own that automatically deducts charges as calls come in. Sign up online through Securus’s enrollment page or by phone. You can add multiple numbers to one account, such as your home phone, cell phone, work line, or a relative’s number, so the inmate can reach you wherever you are.

Step 2. Fund the Account

The maximum funding amount is $100.00 per transaction. Fund the account using a credit or debit card online or by phone, or through Western Union or MoneyGram where available. As long as there’s a balance, you can receive calls; once it runs low, top it up again.

Calls to Cell Phones

AdvanceConnect calls will connect to cell phones, though this is subject to the facility’s specific restrictions. If a call from Penobscot County Jail isn’t reaching your cell phone, confirm with your carrier that calls from correctional facilities aren’t being blocked.

Securus Inbound Connect: Reaching Out First

If you don’t want to wait for a call, Securus Inbound Connect lets you proactively reach out through the Securus mobile app. Add your loved one as a contact in the app, start a connection, and they receive a real-time notification on their personal tablet, where available, inviting them to connect. There’s no signup cost for this feature, though standard call rates, taxes, and fees still apply.

Account Access

You can manage your AdvanceConnect account 24/7 through the Securus website or by phone, including checking your balance and adding funds.

If Calls Are Not Working

First confirm your number and balance are correctly set up in your AdvanceConnect account. If a call isn’t reaching a cell phone, check with your carrier, since some carriers block calls from correctional facilities by default. Confirm the person hasn’t been boarded to another facility, which would put them on a different phone system entirely: see the inmate search guide to check. For account-specific issues, contact Securus customer support. For questions about the jail’s phone system itself, call the facility at (207) 947-4585.

Blocking a Number

If you don’t want calls from someone at the facility, contact Securus directly to block your number on their end, or call the jail’s main line at (207) 947-4585 for guidance.
