Why You Cannot Call In
You cannot dial Lincoln Correctional Center and reach your loved one directly. The resident uses facility phones connected to the ViaPath/GTL system to call approved numbers from inside. Your job is to make sure your number is approved and that there is money available so the call goes through.
Step 1. Get Your Number on the Approved List
The resident controls who can receive calls. They add your phone number to their approved call list from inside. Make sure they have your current number. If you change your number, the resident needs to update the list.
Step 2. Fund the Calling Account
Calls cost $0.10 per minute. There are two ways to cover the cost:
AdvancePay: You prepay through ViaPath/GTL. Call 800-483-8314 or log in at connectnetwork.com to add funds to an AdvancePay account linked to your phone number.
Resident account: The resident can pay for calls from their trust account. Fund the trust account through ConnectNetwork deposits.
Step 3. Be Ready for the Call
Once your number is approved and there is money available, the resident can call you during phone access hours. Each call is limited to 15 minutes. Calls are monitored and recorded.
If you miss a call, the resident will need to call back during their next available phone time. You cannot return the call.
A Note on Timing
Lincoln Correctional Center is a minimum custody reentry facility. Many residents serve on DOT road crews covering five counties or hold work release jobs off-site during weekday business hours. This means they are often not on facility grounds during the day. If you have not heard from the person by mid-day on a weekday, it may be because they are at an assignment. Calls most often come in the evenings after residents return.
If you have not heard from the resident in a while, call (704) 735-0485 to confirm they are still at Lincoln and ask about their current schedule.
If Calls Are Not Connecting
Check these first:
Your number is on the resident’s approved call list (confirm with the resident)
There is money in the account covering the call
Your carrier is not blocking calls from correctional facilities (some carriers do this by default)
If the issue continues, contact ViaPath/ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249 or call the facility at (704) 735-0485.
What Numbers Can Be Called
Residents can call numbers that are on their approved list. Cell phones, landlines, and VoIP numbers can generally be added. Some carriers or number types may have restrictions. Check with ViaPath/GTL if a specific number is not working.
Monitoring and Recording
All calls at NC DAC facilities are monitored and recorded for security. This is standard across state prisons. Calls to attorneys may have different handling, but family calls are always subject to monitoring. Do not share sensitive personal or legal information on a standard call.
