Money for Marion Correctional Institution goes through ViaPath/ConnectNetwork (GTL). You can deposit online at connectnetwork.com, through the ConnectNetwork app, by phone, via Western Union, or by money order. You need the person’s full legal name and OPUS Number for every deposit. Only approved visitors can send funds. Families can also order approved items through the NC Inmate Package Program at ncinmatepackage.com. That program is separate from ConnectNetwork deposits and is covered below.
Marion Correctional Institution uses ViaPath/GTL, operating as ConnectNetwork, for all inmate fund deposits. The same vendor handles trust fund deposits for commissary and AdvancePay deposits for phone calls. These may be separate balances, so confirm with ConnectNetwork if you are unsure where a deposit lands.
You need two things for every deposit: the person’s full legal name and their OPUS Number. Find the OPUS Number using the NC OPI inmate search. A deposit without the correct OPUS Number can be delayed or returned.
Important: Only approved visitors can send money to someone at Marion CI. If you are not on the approved visitor list, your deposit may be rejected.
Go to connectnetwork.com, create a free account if you do not have one, find Marion Correctional Institution, enter the person’s name and OPUS Number, choose an amount, and pay with a debit or credit card. Deposits typically post within a few hours. Service fees range from $2.48 to $8.16 depending on the amount and are shown before you confirm.
Download the ConnectNetwork app from your device’s app store. The process mirrors the website: find the facility, enter the person’s information, choose an amount, and pay. The app is handy for quick repeat deposits once your account is set up.
Call the Trust Fund line at 888-428-1845 for general commissary deposits. For AdvancePay (phone call funding), call 800-483-8314. Have the person’s OPUS Number ready. Phone deposit fees range from $3.27 to $8.95 depending on the amount.
Use Western Union with payment code NCDAC TRUST. Western Union charges a flat $3.00 fee. Complete the transaction at a Western Union agent location or online at westernunion.com. Include the person’s name and OPUS Number.

Money orders carry no service fee. Write the person’s full legal name and OPUS Number on the memo line. Allow extra time for mail transit and processing.
Funds in the trust account cover commissary items: food, hygiene products, clothing, and other approved goods. Phone time through ViaPath is funded separately through AdvancePay. See the phone calls guide for how calling works. Commissary ordering runs on a weekly schedule set by the facility.
Families can order approved items for Marion CI residents through the NC Inmate Package Program at ncinmatepackage.com. This program is separate from ConnectNetwork deposits.
Check ncinmatepackage.com for the current approved item catalog, ordering instructions, and delivery schedule. Items in the program may include food, clothing, hygiene products, and other approved goods. A PIE order does not replace putting money on someone’s commissary account, and commissary funds do not apply toward package orders.
If someone has court-ordered restitution or is on a disciplinary hold, part of incoming funds may be redirected automatically. Funds typically transfer with the person if they move to another NC DAC facility, but confirm with ConnectNetwork or the facility during any transfer.
If a deposit does not post or is returned, call ViaPath at 877-650-4249. Have your deposit confirmation number, the person’s OPUS Number, and the deposit amount ready. Common issues include a name mismatch, an incorrect OPUS Number, or an account hold.
