Overview

North Carolina state prisons, including Wilkes Correctional Center, use ViaPath/ConnectNetwork (GTL) to process money deposits. You can send money online at ConnectNetwork.com, by phone, through Western Union, or by money order. Every deposit requires the resident’s full legal name and OPUS number. Only people who are on the approved visitor list may make deposits. Money funds commissary purchases, phone calls through ViaPath, and other authorized items.

Quick Facts

  • Money service: ViaPath/ConnectNetwork (GTL), used by NC DAC facilities.
  • Deposit online at ConnectNetwork.com or call 888-428-1845 (Trust) or 800-483-8314 (AdvancePay).

  • You always need the resident's full legal name and OPUS number.
  • Support: call 877-650-4249.

Who Can Send Money

Only people on the resident’s approved visitor list can make deposits into their account. If you are not on the approved list, your deposit will not go through. Get on the visitor list first. See the visitation guide for how the approval process works.

What You Always Need

Every deposit method requires:

  • Resident’s full legal name (exactly as it appears in NC DAC records)
  • OPUS number (their unique NC DAC identifier)

Find the OPUS number with the NC OPI inmate search. Deposits without the correct OPUS number can be delayed, returned, or posted to the wrong account.

Deposit Methods

Option 1. Online at ConnectNetwork.com

Go to ConnectNetwork.com and log in or create an account. Search for Wilkes Correctional Center. Enter the resident’s name and OPUS number. Choose the deposit amount and pay with a debit or credit card. Deposits typically post within a few hours.

Online fees: $2.48 to $8.16 depending on the amount.

Option 2. By Phone

Call ConnectNetwork to make a deposit by phone:

  • Trust account deposits: 888-428-1845
  • AdvancePay (prepay for calls): 800-483-8314

Have the resident’s name, OPUS number, and your payment card ready.

Phone fees: $3.27 to $8.95 depending on the amount.

Option 3. Western Union

Use Western Union with the code NCDAC TRUST. You can send in person at a Western Union location or online at westernunion.com.

Western Union fee: approximately $3.00.

Option 4. Money Order (Free)

TouchPay Holdings LLC PO Box 174 Houston, TX 77001-0174

What the Money Is Used For

Funds go to the resident’s account for:

  • Commissary: food, hygiene products, over-the-counter medications, and other approved items
  • Phone calls: at $0.10 per minute through ViaPath/GTL (see the phone calls guide)
  • Other authorized purchases allowed by NC DAC

Because most Wilkes residents work outside the facility during the day, they rely on their commissary account for personal items they use evenings and weekends at the facility. Keeping the account funded matters.

What Happens if a Deposit Fails

If a deposit does not post within 24 hours:

  • Confirm you used the correct OPUS number
  • Confirm you are on the approved visitor list
  • Check with ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249

Deposits with incorrect information are returned to the sender. They do not go into a holding account.

Deposit Limits and Restrictions

NC DAC may set limits on how much can be held in a resident’s account at one time. Funds may be subject to holds if the resident has outstanding court-ordered fines, restitution, or other obligations. Contact the facility at (336) 667-4533 if you have questions about a specific account.

What Happens to Money When the Resident Transfers

If the resident moves to another NC DAC facility, funds in their account transfer with them. If they are released, any remaining balance is returned to them per NC DAC policy.
