Overview

FCI Otisville takes letters for the FCI and the satellite camp at one box, P.O. Box 1000, with the person’s register number on every envelope. The camp has its own second line. Two things go wrong most often here: letters meant for the federal prison sent to the New York State prison in the same town, and money sent to the mailbox instead of the Bureau’s lockbox.

Quick Facts

  • 1 FCI: name and register number, FCI Otisville, P.O. Box 1000, Otisville, NY 10963
  • 2 The camp uses the same box with Satellite Camp on the second line
  • 3 The register number goes on every envelope
  • 4 Otisville Correctional Facility is a different, state prison
  • 5 Money never goes to P.O. Box 1000
  • 6 No Polaroid photographs
  • 7 Books and magazines only from a publisher, bookstore or book club
  • 8 Special mail must be marked and show the sender

The Address

The Bureau’s Otisville page gives one box for both the FCI and the camp.

At the FCI:

[Full Name], [Register Number]
FCI Otisville
Federal Correctional Institution
P.O. Box 1000
Otisville, NY 10963

At the satellite camp:

[Full Name], [Register Number]
FCI Otisville
Federal Correctional Institution Satellite Camp
P.O. Box 1000
Otisville, NY 10963

The register number goes on every envelope. It is how the mailroom matches a letter to a person, and a letter without it may come back.

Not the State Prison

Otisville Correctional Facility is a New York State prison at 57 Sanitorium Road, with its own box and its own rules. Someone at FCI Otisville is in federal custody, with a register number, and letters for them never go to the state prison. If you only have a DIN, the person is in the state system.

Not for Money or Parcels

  • Money goes to the Bureau’s lockbox in Des Moines, Iowa, never to P.O. Box 1000.
  • Freight and non-USPS parcels go to the warehouse on Two Mile Dr., addressed to a staff member. That address is for official shipments, not family packages.

Photographs

The Otisville handbook bans Polaroid photographs. Ordinary printed photos are the safe choice.

Books and Magazines

Publications must come from the publisher, a bookstore or a book club, not from a family member. A family can order a book online and have the shop send it.

Mail from an attorney, a court or a government official counts as special mail when it is marked “Special Mail: Open Only in the Presence of the Inmate” and shows the sender’s name and title. Ordinary letters marked that way are treated as ordinary letters.

Sending Without Stamps

Federal email through CorrLinks is text only, with no photos. For pictures and printed letters, Pigeonly sends them from your phone to P.O. Box 1000, with the register number already in place.

A Checklist for the Envelope

  3. P.O. Box 1000, Otisville, NY 10963.
  4. Your full return address in the top left.
  5. No Polaroids, no money, nothing stuck on.
