Find Someone at Tyger River Correctional Institution

Visit doc.sc.gov/inmate-search-disclaimer. This is the same search tool for every SCDC institution statewide, there’s no separate Tyger River-specific lookup.

Step 2. Search by Name

Enter the person’s first and last name. You don’t need their SCDC number to search, though having it on hand helps confirm you’ve found the right person if the name is common.

Step 3. Confirm the Listed Location

The search result shows the person’s current institution. Before you travel, schedule a visit, or send money, confirm the result says Tyger River Correctional Institution, not a different facility. People transfer between institutions, and results can lag behind an actual move by a few days.

What the Results Show

Along with current location, results typically include the person’s SCDC number, admission information, and custody status. This is enough to confirm identity and current placement, but it won’t tell you exact housing unit or projected release date detail, for that level of detail, you generally need to ask the facility directly or check with the person themselves.

Why Someone Might Not Show Up

A few common reasons: they were arrested recently and haven’t been entered into the SCDC system yet (new SCDC commitments typically process through Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center first), they’ve already been released or paroled, they were transferred to a different state or federal system, or the name was entered with a variation (nickname, misspelling, hyphenation) that doesn’t match SCDC’s records exactly.

If You Can’t Find Them

Try variations on the name first, middle names, hyphenated last names, or common misspellings. If that doesn’t work, they may still be in county jail awaiting transfer to SCDC, in which case they wouldn’t appear in the SCDC system yet. Call Tyger River directly at (803) 896-3501, or the county jail where they were originally booked, to ask directly.

Confirming Before You Act
