MailLon Evans was Sheriff of Tarrant County from 1961 to 1985, the longest tenure of any sheriff in the county's history. Before that he played football at TCU, made All-Southwest Conference guard in 1932, and went on to the Green Bay Packers, where he was All-Pro in 1936 and 1937. He was elected president of the Sheriff's Association of Texas in 1972. Tarrant County does not publish a statement that the jail is named in his honor, so we are not going to assert it, though the connection is hard to miss.
