What the Search Covers

Tarrant County holds around 4,200 people at a time across five Sheriff’s Office detention facilities, and books roughly 35,000 a year. One search serves all of them.

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards treats Tarrant the same way. Its published population data lists Tarrant County as a single entry with a capacity of 5,015, without breaking the figure down by building. Neither the county nor the state publishes per-facility numbers, so the search reflects how the system is organised.

Searching by Name, or by CID

The form takes a last name, a first name, or a CID number. CID is Tarrant County’s own inmate identifier, and it is the most reliable way to search once you have it, because it sidesteps every spelling problem.

Two dropdown filters narrow results by race and by sex, and a third sets how many records come back at a time, from 5 up to 50. On a common surname, raising that limit saves paging through results.

If you do not have a CID yet, the first search is the one that gives it to you. Write it down. You need it to make a deposit through Access Corrections and to address mail correctly, and every later step goes faster with it.

The Thing the Search Will Not Tell You

There is no field, filter, or statement in the search that identifies which of the five detention facilities a person is held in. The county publishes no facility selector and no documentation for the tool. Its page for the search was last touched in June 2021 and contains only the link.

This is the gap that costs families a wasted trip. Lon Evans is at 600 W. Weatherford. The Corrections Center is at 100 N. Lamar. Green Bay is at 2500 Urban Drive. All three share the same main phone number and the same visiting schedule, and the search does not distinguish between them. Confirming the building at 817-884-3000 before a visit is the step that saves the drive.

Daily Booked-In and Bond Reports

Separate from the search, the county publishes two sets of rolling PDF reports: daily booked-in reports and daily bond reports, at cjreports.tarrantcounty.com. Fourteen files are kept in each set.

They work differently from what you might expect. The files are numbered rather than dated, and file 01 is always the most recent day, with the numbers sliding as new days are added. So a link you saved last week points at a different day’s report now. These are countywide and are not broken out by facility either. They are most useful in the first day or two after an arrest, when someone may not yet be findable by name.

When Someone Is Not There

A few things to try before assuming the worst:

• Search on less. A last name alone with the record limit raised will catch a misspelled or transposed first name.
• Try the name variants. A middle name used as a first name, a maiden name, a shortened form, or a hyphenated surname entered as one word.
• Give it a few hours. Someone arrested overnight may not have finished booking, and the county publishes no refresh interval for the search.
• Consider the agency. Fort Worth is covered by several police departments as well as the Sheriff’s Office. Someone arrested by a city department may be held elsewhere before transfer.
