Effective November 10, 2025, ADOC switched all personal inmate mail statewide to a digital-only system. Letters, photos, drawings, and cards no longer get delivered as physical paper. They’re mailed to a centralized processing center in San Antonio, TX, scanned, and delivered to the incarcerated person digitally through a tablet. This is a major, current change, and mail sent to Fountain’s own physical address after November 10, 2025 is returned to sender. Packages and legal mail work differently and still go directly to the facility, and it’s especially important at Fountain to use the correct facility address, not the old internal “Fountain 3800” mail code and not William C. Holman Correctional Facility, a separate institution also located near Atmore.
Effective November 10, 2025, ADOC moved all personal inmate mail statewide to a digital-only system. This applies to letters, photos, drawings, and cards, everything a family member would normally handwrite or print and mail. None of it is delivered to the incarcerated person as physical paper anymore. Instead, it’s mailed to a centralized processing center, scanned there, and delivered to the person electronically on a tablet.
Address all personal letters, photos, and cards to:

Write the inmate’s full name and their AIS number exactly as shown. Your own full name and physical address must be clearly written in the top left corner of the envelope. Find the AIS number using the ADOC inmate locator if you don’t already have it.
This is the most common mistake families make with this new system. Personal mail sent to Fountain’s own street address, 9677 Hwy 21 N, Atmore, AL 36503, after November 10, 2025 is returned to sender. ADOC’s facility directory also separately lists an internal reference, “Fountain 3800, Atmore, AL 36503-3800,” which appears to have been an old internal mail-routing code used before the digital-mail switch. Don’t use that code as a mailing address either. The San Antonio PO Box above is the only correct address for letters, photos, drawings, and cards now.
Packages and legal mail are not part of the digital-mail change. They continue to go directly to Fountain’s own physical address:

This is an important distinction. If you send a package or legal correspondence to the San Antonio processing center by mistake, it likely won’t reach the intended recipient the way personal mail does. Keep the two addresses straight: San Antonio for personal letters and photos, Fountain’s own street address for packages and legal mail. Don’t use the older “Fountain 3800” reference for this either; use the street address above.
G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility and William C. Holman Correctional Facility are two separate ADOC institutions, both located near Atmore, AL. Fountain is at 9677 Hwy 21 N, Atmore, AL 36503. Holman is a different, nearby facility not covered in this guide yet. Sending a package or legal mail to the wrong Atmore facility is an easy mistake to make. Confirm which facility the person is held at using the ADOC inmate locator before you address anything, and double-check the facility name and address before you mail it.

Legal mail is typically handled under separate rules from personal correspondence. If you’re an attorney or sending legal correspondence, mail it to Fountain’s own physical address instead of the San Antonio personal-mail processing center, and call (251) 368-8122 to confirm the exact procedure.
If a letter comes back to you, check first whether you used the correct San Antonio address for personal mail. If you did and it was still rejected, call Fountain at (251) 368-8122 to ask what specifically caused the rejection before you resend it.
