SCC has already completed CDCR’s transition from ViaPath Technologies to Securus Technologies as of this guide’s last verification.

Voice Calls Are Free

Since January 1, 2023, CDCR has made all outgoing audio phone calls free for both incarcerated people and the families and friends they call. There’s no per-minute charge to worry about. Calls are limited to 15 minutes each, and it’s up to the incarcerated person to place the call. You can give them a number to call, but you can’t call in to them directly.

SCC Has Already Transitioned to Securus

CDCR awarded a new statewide telecommunications contract to Securus Technologies in February 2025, after a court ruling vacated the prior contract with ViaPath Technologies. CDCR has been rolling out the switch institution by institution, and Sierra Conservation Center has already completed that transition as of this guide’s last verification.

Signing Up With Securus

For video calls, e-messages, and tablet features at SCC, sign up with Securus at securustech.net/cdcr. Securus generally offers lower per-minute costs on video calls and e-messages compared to ViaPath’s older rates, along with more free video minutes and e-messages included each month.

If He Was Recently Transferred to SCC

If the incarcerated person had a ViaPath account at a previous CDCR institution, that account and any stored content doesn’t carry over to SCC’s Securus system. He’ll need to create a new Securus account, and any content he wanted to keep from ViaPath needed to be printed before he transferred.

Refunds and Balances From a Previous Facility

If he had an unused ViaPath balance from a facility that hasn’t transitioned yet, you can request a refund through ViaPath’s call center. Any balance on his side automatically refunds to his trust account.

If You Have Trouble

For current account or billing questions, contact Securus directly. CDCR posts major outage notices on its website if there’s a service interruption.
