How to Send Mail and Photos to Twin Towers Correctional Facility

Photos You Can Send

You can send up to five photos with each piece of mail, which matches the number an inmate is allowed to keep in their property at once. Photos and computer-generated pictures must be at least 2x3 inches and no larger than 4x6 inches, and they cannot show nudity, suggestive content, gangs, gang tattoos, or gang hand signs.

Books and Magazines

Books and magazines must be new and come directly from a bookstore or publisher, not from you or another visitor, and they cannot contain explicit sexual content. LASD accepts up to 3 books and 3 magazines per week. Separately, Twin Towers limits what an inmate can keep in their housing area at one time to 3 books, 2 magazines, and 1 same-day newspaper, so extra copies may not be retained even if they’re accepted through the mail.

Greeting and Post Cards

Greeting cards and postcards are allowed as long as they’re not musical, plastic or plastic-covered, or blank, and are no larger than 6x9 inches.

What’s Not Allowed

• Food or cosmetic items
• Blank stationery or envelopes, envelopes with metal clasps, or envelopes with gang-related or suggestive drawings or artwork
• Postage stamps. An inmate can have stamps in their property, but they get them through commissary, not through the mail.
• Cash, personal checks, second-party checks, traveler’s checks, or payroll checks
• A single money order over $200, a blank or unsigned money order, or an out-of-state money order not issued by the U.S. Post Office
• Musical, plastic, plastic-covered, or blank greeting or post cards, or any larger than 6x9 inches
• ID cards or facsimiles of ID cards
• Paper clips, staples, pens, pencils, glitter, stickers, or glued or gummed labels
• Rosary beads, balloons, string bracelets, or other jewelry
• Lottery tickets or prepaid phone cards
• Cellophane tape or any tape on letters
• Photos with nudity, suggestive content, or gang-related images or hand signs
• Books or magazines that are used, contain explicit sexual content, or aren’t sent directly from a bookstore or publisher

If a piece of mail breaks these rules, LASD returns it to you intact, and any contraband found can be confiscated and booked into evidence. This list can be updated at any time, so if you’re not sure whether something is allowed, call intake at (213) 473-6080 before you mail it.
