Visiting someone at Valley State Prison starts with getting approved. The incarcerated person signs CDCR Form 106, the Visitor Questionnaire, and mails it in for a background check. Once you’re approved, you schedule your visit through CDCR’s statewide Visitation Scheduling Application (VSA) at cdcr.gtlvisitme.com/app. VSP offers 3-day in-person visiting, Friday through Sunday, and each day opens for booking on its own rolling weekly window, which is easy to miss if you don’t know it in advance. As of CDCR’s June 9, 2026 visiting status update, in-person visiting at VSP is in Open Phase for all facilities. This guide covers the approval process, visiting hours, the exact scheduling windows, walk-in visits, the vending spending caps, the In-Person Picnic program, Family Visiting, ID requirements, and a one-time training closure coming up on June 26, 2026.
The person you want to visit has to request CDCR Form 106, the Visitor Questionnaire, sign it, and send it to you. Fill it out completely, with every question answered. An incomplete application gets disapproved, and so does one that’s been altered or destroyed.
Answer every question honestly. CDCR checks your answers against law enforcement records before approving you as a visitor.
Visiting correspondence, including the completed questionnaire, goes to: 21633 Avenue 24, P.O. Box 92, Chowchilla, CA 93610, with “Attn: Visiting Office” written on the envelope.
Once approved, schedule your visit through CDCR’s statewide Visitation Scheduling Application (VSA) at cdcr.gtlvisitme.com/app. VSP opens scheduling on a rolling window that starts and ends on different days depending on which visiting day you want:

In other words, if you want to visit on a Sunday, the booking window opens the Saturday before and stays open through the following Tuesday, giving you a longer window than a Friday or Saturday visit. CDCR’s own page notes this schedule is subject to change at any time, so check VSA directly before you plan around these times.
Walk-in visits are allowed during regular visiting hours, space permitting, on a first-come, first-served basis. They are not guaranteed. When you arrive for a walk-in visit, you’ll need to draw a pass number and wait to be called. The Friends Outside trailer is on-site to help with in-person visits if you need assistance or have questions while you wait.
Visiting rooms have vending machines for food and beverages. Spending is capped at $100 per adult visitor and $50 per minor visitor, so plan your cash or card accordingly.
VSP runs an In-Person Picnic program that rewards positive programming and helps incarcerated people build a supportive family connection ahead of reintegration. The process starts on the inside: the incarcerated person submits a request to VSP’s visiting center. If the person you’re visiting is interested, encourage them to ask the visiting center directly about current eligibility and scheduling.
Family Visiting is a separate, longer visiting process from regular in-person visits, sometimes called extended visiting. Contact the Family Visiting line at (559) 665-6100, ext. 5750 or 5751, for current status. As of this guide’s verification, Family Visiting at VSP is open with 6 units available, with visits being scheduled in the order applications were received, starting with applications submitted while the units were closed. Since availability and the waitlist can change, call ahead to confirm before you plan around it.
Family Visiting runs on its own weekly schedule, separate from regular visiting hours:
Valid picture identification is required for entry. Paper documents of any kind, including a renewal receipt or a printed form, are not an acceptable form of ID. Bring your physical, valid photo ID every time.
VSP follows CDCR’s standard statewide attire rules for visitors. Wear modest, appropriate clothing. Avoid anything that resembles inmate clothing, including blue denim or orange clothing, camouflage patterns, and clothing associated with gang colors or symbols. Check CDCR’s statewide “Prepare to Visit” guidance for the full list before you go, since VSP’s own page does not publish additional facility-specific attire rules beyond the statewide standard.
Mark your calendar: regular in-person visiting at VSP is closed on Friday, June 26, 2026, for statewide visiting staff training. This is a one-time date, not a recurring closure, and normal visiting hours resume the next day, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 8:30am. Family Visiting is not affected by this closure.
We looked for a VSP-specific inmate or family handbook PDF. We didn’t find one. We also looked for a VSP-specific visitor application form beyond the standard statewide process, and didn’t find a separate one. The only form confirmed for VSP visitors is the statewide CDCR Form 106, the Visitor Questionnaire.
