Step 1: Get Approved as a Visitor
Before your first visit, you need approval from FDOC. This is a one-time process per inmate, and it works the same way at South Bay CF as it does at other Florida state prisons, even though The GEO Group operates the facility.
Download the Visitation Application Form from official FDOC sources. Every visitor 12 years or older who wants to visit must complete their own form. Children under 12 do not need to submit a form but must be accompanied by an approved adult visitor.
Fill out the form completely. If a field does not apply to you, write “NA”. Do not leave it blank, or the application may be denied. Read the visitor information rules document before submitting.
Submit the form by mail to the Classification Department at South Bay Correctional Facility. Call 561-992-9505 to ask whether the facility currently accepts email submission of the application.
Only apply after the inmate has arrived at their permanent facility. Do not submit the form while the person is still in county jail or in transit.
Waiting for Approval
FDOC processes applications in about 30 days. The inmate is notified of the decision, not you. The inmate will then let you know by phone or letter. Once you are on the approved list, you stay approved until someone removes you.
If you are denied, the inmate can tell you the reason. Denials can happen for criminal history, an active protective order, or incomplete paperwork.
Step 2: Schedule Your Weekly Visit
Even after you are approved, you must schedule each individual visit in advance. FDOC does not allow walk-up visits.
Go to the FDOC Offender Search portal. Find the inmate’s profile and use the Visitation Scheduling Form. Submit the form during the weekly scheduling window. Approval for scheduled visits is subject to available seating. Apply for any or all available days.
Visiting Hours and Arrival
The exact visiting day and time block currently posted for South Bay CF was not confirmed through a live official source during research. FDOC state prisons commonly run regular visiting on weekend mornings into early afternoon, but do not assume this facility follows that exact window. Call 561-992-9505 to confirm the current schedule before planning a visit, and arrive early to allow time for security processing.
What to Bring and Wear
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. A driver’s license, state ID card, or passport all work. If you do not have one, call the facility at 561-992-9505 before making the trip.
FDOC publishes specific dress code rules in the visitor information document. Review it before your visit. In general, do not wear clothing that resembles inmate clothing, revealing clothing, or anything with metal components that could interfere with screening.
Do not bring personal items into the visiting area beyond what the facility allows. Most facilities permit a small amount of cash for vending machines.
Children and Minor Visitors
Children under 12 do not need to submit a Visitation Application, but they must be accompanied by an approved adult visitor. Children 12 and older must submit their own application.
Bring proof of relationship for children, especially if the adult visitor is not the child’s parent or legal guardian.
Security Screening
All visitors go through security before entering the visiting area. This includes walking through a metal detector or magnetometer. Corrections officers may also conduct a pat search or use a handheld wand.
Do not bring prohibited items to the facility. Items that cannot be brought in will be turned away and could result in removal from the approved visitor list.
Does GEO Group Operation Change Visiting Rules?
No. Because South Bay CF holds inmates sentenced to FDOC custody, FDOC sets the overall visiting policy framework even though The GEO Group manages daily operations. Visitors should expect the same general application, approval, and scheduling process as at a state-run facility.
What Happens If a Visit Is Denied on Arrival
An approved visitor can still be denied on the day of the visit. Reasons include the inmate being on disciplinary restriction, a medical or mental health hold, the facility being on lockdown, or no available seating.
If this happens, your approved status remains active. Reschedule for the next available window through the FDOC portal.
