Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility Inmate Search

Iowa counts this site as two separate lines, the Main Building and Minimum Live Out, and the search shows neither. Start with a name below and we will find them.

Overview

Mount Pleasant has no roster of its own. Iowa runs a single offender search covering all nine prisons plus community supervision, and you narrow it here through the Location dropdown. The record it returns is unusually detailed, carrying age, offense, both discharge dates and the latest parole board decision. What it does not carry is the unit, and at this prison the unit is the one thing that determines when you can visit and by what method.

Quick Facts

  • 1 Search at doc-search.iowa.gov and set Location to Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility
  • 2 Three name modes: Starts With, Matches and Sounds Like
  • 3 The offender number returns exactly one person
  • 4 The record shows age, offense, commitment date and both discharge dates
  • 5 It never shows which unit somebody is in
  • 6 Mount Pleasant held 1,019 people on September 9, 2026 against a capacity of 776
  • 7 The Minimum Live Out unit held 104 against a capacity of 164
  • 8 Released people stay in the database with every field emptied

Open Iowa’s statewide offender search and set Location to Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility. A name search with Pigeonly is another starting point before you call about the unit.

If you are not certain where somebody is, leave Location on All instead. That returns where they actually are, which beats confirming a guess, and it also catches anybody on community supervision, since the dropdown includes each judicial district as well as the nine prisons.

The Two Lines Iowa Counts Here

Iowa’s Daily Statistics page splits this site in two, and neither line appears in the offender search.

On September 9, 2026, Mount Pleasant showed a count of 1,019 against a capacity of 776, with 81 in medical or segregation status. Directly below it, MPCF Minimum Live-Out showed 104 against a capacity of 164.

That split is not a technicality. The Main Building and the Minimum Live Out unit have four different visiting schedules between them, with different days, different closing times and different video arrangements. The search will tell you somebody is at Mount Pleasant and stop there.

The way to close the gap is a phone call. 319-385-9511, and ask which unit and which schedule applies.

Three Ways to Search a Name

Starts With is the default and works from a partial name.

Matches needs the name exactly as Iowa recorded it.

Sounds Like matches names pronounced the same and spelled differently, which is the mode for a spelling that reached you second hand.

Sex and County of Commitment narrow a common surname. County of Commitment means where the case began rather than where the person is now.

The Fields on a Record

  • name, offender number, sex and age
  • location, reading as Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility
  • offense
  • TDD and SDD, which Iowa expands as Tentative Discharge Date and Supervision Discharge Date
  • commitment date and recall date
  • the most recent board decision, with type, decision, dates, any interview slot and any mandatory minimum
  • a charges table with an expand control

Iowa attaches a caution of its own to any parole interview date: contact Board of Parole staff to confirm it rather than relying on the page.

At a minimum-security reentry prison the discharge dates carry more weight than they do elsewhere in Iowa, because this is where people are held while being prepared for release rather than at the start of a sentence.

Two Capacity Figures That Do Not Agree

Iowa publishes both and reconciles neither.

The facility page describes capacity as approximately 1,000.

The Daily Statistics page gave the Main Building a working capacity of 776 on the same day it counted 1,019 people there.

Both are Iowa Department of Corrections figures, roughly 224 apart, and the population sits above both. The reason it belongs on a search page: a prison running well over its working capacity moves people, and a location confirmed last month is not a location confirmed today.

A Record With Every Field Empty

A record with the right name and nothing in the location, offense or date fields almost always means release.

Iowa keeps released people in the database and empties those fields rather than deleting the record. At a reentry prison this is the most likely explanation of the three, because release is what this facility is for.

Iowa Gives Two Update Speeds

The search disclaimer says information is updated on a weekly basis and may change quickly. A separate Iowa Department of Corrections page tells families a transfer generally shows online within 24 hours of the move.

Both are official and neither acknowledges the other.

Mount Pleasant is in the far southeast corner of Iowa, near the Illinois and Missouri borders, so this is a long drive from Des Moines or anywhere north. Ring 319-385-9511 and confirm. That is the same number that answers questions about visitor applications for every prison in the state.

When the Search Finds Nobody

They are in county custody. Anyone awaiting trial or sentencing is held by a county, and county rosters are not in this search.

They have not been classified yet. Men entering Iowa’s system go to the reception centre at Coralville first.

The spelling differs. Try Sounds Like, or search the surname alone.

They were released. See the empty record above.

The case was federal. There are no federal prisons in Iowa, so the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) runs its own separate locator.

Copy Two Things Down

The offender number and the exact legal name spelling are what everything else runs on.

The mail routing line needs both. A money order to Fort Dodge without them is returned. And the visitor application, which is posted to this very prison for every facility in Iowa, asks for both at the top of the first page.

6 of 7 questions

Q

How do I check whether someone is at Mount Pleasant?

Use Iowa's statewide offender search at doc-search.iowa.gov and set the Location dropdown to Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility. There is no separate roster here. If you are unsure where they are, leave Location on All, since the dropdown also covers the other eight prisons and each judicial district.

Q

Does the search tell me which unit they are in?

No, and at Mount Pleasant that is the gap that matters. Iowa counts the Main Building and the Minimum Live Out unit as two separate lines with two different capacities, and the two units run four different visiting schedules between them. Ring 319-385-9511 and ask which one applies before booking anything.

Inmate Search
Q

Why do the capacity numbers not match?

Because Iowa publishes two kinds of figure and explains neither. The facility page describes capacity as approximately 1,000, while the Daily Statistics page on September 9, 2026 gave a working capacity of 776 with 1,019 people held, plus a separate Minimum Live-Out line at 104 against 164. Both come from the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Inmate Search
Q

The record came back blank. What does that mean?

Almost always a release, and at a minimum-security reentry prison that is the most likely answer of all. Iowa keeps released people in the database and empties the location, offense and date fields rather than deleting the record. Ring to confirm if a release would surprise you.

Inmate Search
Q

How current is the information?

Iowa publishes two answers. The search disclaimer says data is updated on a weekly basis and may change quickly, while a separate Iowa DOC page says a transfer generally appears within 24 hours of the move. Both are official. Mount Pleasant is in the far southeast corner of the state, so confirm on 319-385-9511 before a long drive.

Inmate Search
Q

I am not sure how the name is spelled.

Use the Sounds Like name mode, which finds names pronounced the same but spelled differently. Starts With, the default, handles a partial name and Matches needs an exact one. Filtering by sex or by County of Commitment, which means where the case originated, narrows a common surname further.

Inmate Search
Q

Why can I not find someone arrested last week?

An arrest does not put somebody into Iowa Department of Corrections custody. People awaiting trial or sentencing are held in county jails, each with its own roster. This search covers the nine state prisons and community supervision only, and men entering the prison system are processed at the reception centre in Coralville first.
