Phone Calls at Dixon Correctional Institute

Securus Technologies handles calls: set up a prepaid account before the first call. The inmate must add your number to their approved list.

Overview

Phone calls at Dixon Correctional Institute go through Securus Technologies. The inmate must add your number to their approved call list before they can dial you. Setting up a prepaid Securus account in advance gives you better call rates and makes sure your number is ready when they try to reach you. Calls are outgoing only: you cannot call the inmate directly.

Quick Facts

  • Phone calls go through Securus Technologies at securustech.net or 1-800-844-6591.
  • The inmate must add your number to their approved call list (up to 20 numbers, updated quarterly).
  • Each call is limited to 15 minutes. A warning tone sounds before the call disconnects.
  • Set up a prepaid AdvancePay account at securustech.net for better rates than collect calls.
  • All calls are recorded and monitored. Never discuss legal matters on a call.
  • Cell phones cannot receive collect calls. Use a Securus AdvancePay account instead.
  • For facility questions, call Dixon at (225) 634-1200.

How Phone Calls Work at Dixon

The inmate places outgoing calls. You cannot call them. Here is the flow:

  1. The inmate adds your number to their approved call list. They can have up to 20 approved numbers. The list is typically updated quarterly. If your number is not on the list yet, they have to wait for the next update window.
  2. You set up a Securus account (recommended) so calls go through at prepaid rates instead of collect rates.
  3. The inmate calls your number from facility phones during scheduled calling hours.
  4. You accept the call.

Setting Up a Securus Account

Go to securustech.net or call 1-800-844-6591.

Options:

  • AdvancePay. You fund an account tied to your phone number. When the inmate calls, the cost comes out of your balance. Better rates than collect. Works on cell phones and landlines.
  • Prepaid Calling. The inmate’s commissary account is charged per call. Works if the inmate has enough JPay funds.
  • Collect calls. Billed to your phone bill. Only works on landlines, not cell phones. Higher per-minute rates.

Best option: Set up an AdvancePay account at securustech.net with your cell phone number. This works on any phone and gives you the best rates.

Call Limits

  • 15 minutes per call. A warning tone plays before the line disconnects. If the conversation is not done, the inmate can call back right away if calling time is still available.
  • 300 minutes per month is the typical Louisiana DOC allotment. Inmates on disciplinary status may have reduced monthly limits.

What Not to Say on a Call

All calls at Dixon Correctional Institute are recorded and may be reviewed by staff. Avoid:

  • Anything related to pending legal matters or court strategy
  • Discussions of criminal activity
  • Anything you would not want facility staff to hear

Attorney-client calls on a designated number may be privileged. Check with the attorney for specifics.

If Calls Are Not Coming Through

  • Confirm your number is on the inmate’s currently active approved list, not just submitted
  • Check that your cell carrier is not blocking correctional facility numbers (some do this by default; ask them to whitelist the Securus number range)
  • Verify your Securus account has a positive balance if you are using AdvancePay
  • Call Securus support at 1-800-844-6591 for account issues
