How to Visit FCI Oakdale II

Weekends and federal holidays only. Last entry 2:00 PM sharp. You must be on the approved list — start the process early.

Overview

Visiting an inmate at FCI Oakdale II takes preparation. You need to be on the approved visitor list before you show up, and the inmate must have visiting points available. Both requirements are inmate-initiated — meaning the inmate needs to start the process on their end. Plan ahead, especially for first-time visits, which require a background check before approval.

The 6-Point Visiting System

FCI Oakdale II follows BOP’s visiting point system. Each inmate starts each month with 6 visiting points. Each day a visitor comes uses 1 point, regardless of how many people come that day. Federal holidays don’t count against the monthly total.

This means an inmate can have visitors on up to 6 days per month. If multiple family members visit on the same day, it still only costs 1 point. Coordinate with others on the approved list to make the most of the month.

How to Get on the Approved Visitor List

The approval process is started by the inmate:

  1. Within their first week at FCI Oakdale II, the inmate provides your name, address, age, and relationship to their Unit Counselor.
  2. The Unit Counselor mails each prospective visitor a Visitor Information Form (BP-629).
  3. You complete the form and return it to the facility.
  4. BOP runs an NCIC criminal background check on each prospective visitor.
  5. The inmate is notified whether you were approved or denied.

The friend/associate list is typically limited to 10 people. Immediate family is handled separately and isn’t subject to the same cap. If denied, the inmate can request a review through their counselor.
