Who Is at LCIW?
LCIW holds Louisiana state DOC inmates, specifically women. These are adults sentenced by Louisiana courts and serving time under the state Department of Public Safety and Corrections. LCIW is not a federal facility (search bop.gov for federal inmates) and is not a parish jail. Women held locally on parish charges would be at a parish jail, not LCIW.
LCIW is the only state-operated women’s prison in Louisiana. If a woman is serving a state sentence in Louisiana, LCIW is the primary state placement. Some women may be housed at parish facilities under DOC contract, so if she doesn’t appear at LCIW, VINELink will show her current location statewide.
Why Someone Might Not Appear
Recent transfer or arrival. New arrivals and transfers can take 24 to 48 hours to show up in VINELink after processing. Give it two full days.
Name variation. VINELink searches by the legal name on file with DOC. Try alternate spellings or last name only.
Not yet sentenced. Women awaiting trial or sentencing are typically held at parish jails, not LCIW.
Released. If she’s completed her sentence, she won’t show as currently incarcerated.
