Phone Calls at Winn Correctional Center

Securus Technologies handles calls — set up a prepaid account before the first call. The inmate adds your number to their list.

Overview

Phone calls at Winn Correctional Center go through Securus Technologies, one of the largest correctional phone providers in the country. The inmate must add your number to their approved call list before they can dial you. Setting up a prepaid account through Securus in advance gives you the best call rates and ensures your number is ready when they try to call.

Quick Facts

  • Phone calls go through Securus Technologies — securustech.net or 1-800-844-6591.
  • The inmate must add your number to their approved call list (up to 20 numbers, updated quarterly).
  • Each call is limited to 15 minutes. A warning tone sounds before the call disconnects.
  • Set up a prepaid account at securustech.net for better rates than collect calls.
  • All calls are recorded and monitored — never discuss legal matters on a call.
  • Cell phones can't receive collect calls — you need a Securus prepaid account or AdvancePay.
  • For facility questions, call Winn at (318) 628-3971.

How Phone Calls Work at Winn

The inmate makes outgoing calls — you can’t call them. Here’s the flow:

  1. The inmate adds your number to their approved call list. They can have up to 20 approved numbers. The list is typically updated quarterly — if your number isn’t on the list yet, they have to wait for the next update window.
  2. You set up a Securus account (recommended) so calls go through at prepaid rates instead of collect rates.
  3. The inmate calls your number from facility phones during scheduled calling hours.
  4. You accept the call.

Setting Up a Securus Account

Go to securustech.net or call 1-800-844-6591.

Options:

  • AdvancePay — You fund an account tied to your phone number. When the inmate calls, the cost is deducted from your balance. Better rates than collect.
  • Prepaid Calling — The inmate’s commissary account is charged per call. Works if the inmate has sufficient JPay funds.
  • Collect calls — Billed to your phone bill. Only works on landlines (not cell phones). Higher per-minute rates.

Recommendation: Set up an AdvancePay account at securustech.net with your cell phone number. This works on any phone and gives you the best rates.

Call Limits

  • 15 minutes per call — A warning tone plays before the call cuts off. If the conversation isn’t done, the inmate can call back immediately (subject to available call time).
  • 300 minutes per month is the typical Louisiana DOC allotment. Inmates on certain disciplinary statuses may have reduced monthly limits.

What Not to Talk About

All calls at Winn Correctional Center are recorded and may be reviewed by staff. Avoid:

  • Anything related to pending legal matters or court strategy
  • Discussions of criminal activity
  • Anything you wouldn’t want staff to hear

Attorney-client calls on a different designated number may be privileged — consult with the attorney for specifics.

If Calls Aren’t Coming Through

  • Confirm your number is on the inmate’s currently active approved list — not just submitted
  • Check that your cell carrier isn’t blocking correctional facility numbers (common with some carriers — ask to whitelist the Securus number range)
  • Verify your Securus account has a positive balance if you’re using AdvancePay
  • Call Securus support at 1-800-844-6591 for account issues

Video Visitation

Securus Technologies offers video visiting at many Louisiana facilities. Call Winn Correctional Center at (318) 628-3971 to ask whether video visitation is currently available and how to schedule a session. If available, you’ll need to be on the approved visitor list and book through Securus’s video platform.
