Two Separate Systems: Account Deposits vs. Commissary
At Alamance County Detention Center, money deposits and commissary orders are handled by two different providers.
JailATM handles inmate trust account deposits. Money you send through JailATM goes into the person’s account and covers things like phone credits through Paytel.
Oasis/JailCanteen handles commissary orders. You place an order for specific items (food, hygiene products, stationery) and those items are delivered to the person directly. This is a separate process from depositing to the trust account.
Know which one you need before you start.
What You Need Before You Send Money
No matter which method you use, have the following ready:
- Full legal name of the person in custody (the name on their booking record)
- Booking number (find it on the P2C roster at apps.alamance-nc.com/p2c/jailinmates.aspx)
- A payment method (debit/credit card for online and kiosk; money order or cash for mail/kiosk)
Option 1: Send Money Online Through JailATM
Go to deposits.jailatm.com and create a free account if you don’t have one. Search for Alamance County Detention Center, enter the person’s name and booking number, enter the deposit amount, and pay by card.
A service fee applies. The fee amount is shown on the site before you confirm the transaction.
Allow a few hours for funds to post to the account. Processing times can vary.
Option 2: Send Money by Phone
Call JailATM at 877-810-0914. Follow the prompts to make a deposit by phone. Have the booking number and a card ready. Fees apply and will be read to you before you confirm.
Option 3: Use the Lobby Kiosk
A cash and debit/credit kiosk is available in the lobby of the Alamance County Detention Center at 109 S Maple St, Graham, NC 27253. The kiosk accepts cash, debit cards, and credit cards.
This is the fastest option if you are already near the jail. You do not need an online account. Bring the person’s booking number.
Option 4: Mail a Money Order
Send a money order to:
Alamance County Detention Center
109 S Maple St
Graham, NC 27253
Write the following on the money order:
- Pay to: The inmate’s full legal name
- Memo line: The booking number
Do not send cash. Mail takes longer to process than the other methods, so allow extra time. If the money order is returned or rejected, contact [email protected] or call (336) 570-6317.
Commissary Through Oasis/JailCanteen
Commissary orders are placed separately through Oasis/JailCanteen.
- Website: jailcanteen.com
- Phone: 800-956-2747
- Processing fee: $5.95 per order
- Order cutoff: Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
- Delivery time: Within 10 days of the order cutoff
When you place an order, you select specific items from the available product list for the facility. Items are then delivered to the person inside. You do not need to deposit into the trust account separately to place a commissary order.
What the Money Covers
Funds deposited through JailATM are typically used for:
- Paytel phone credits so the person can make outgoing calls. See the phone calls guide.
- Digital messages sent through the JailATM app.
- Other authorized purchases the facility allows from the trust account.
Commissary items (food, hygiene, stationery) are ordered directly through JailCanteen, not through the trust account.
Troubleshooting a Failed Deposit
If your deposit does not show up after 24 to 48 hours:
- Confirm the booking number is correct by checking the P2C roster.
- Check whether the person has been transferred or released. If so, the account may be frozen.
- Contact JailATM at 877-810-0914 with your transaction reference number.
- Contact the Detention Center at (336) 570-6317 or [email protected].
What Happens If the Person Is Transferred or Released
If the person transfers to a state prison or is released, the funds in their account typically follow one of these paths:
- Transfer to state: JailATM may allow funds to follow the person if the receiving facility uses a compatible system. Contact JailATM to ask.
- Release: Most jails return the balance by check to the depositor or to the person upon release. Contact JailATM and the Detention Center to confirm the process.
Account Limits and Restrictions
Exact account balance limits and per-transaction caps are not published by the facility. JailATM will show limits during the deposit process if any apply. If an inmate has a hold on their account for court-ordered restitution or fees, deposits may be applied to that obligation first. Contact the Detention Center for specific account questions.
