How to Search
Go to webapps.doc.state.nc.us/opi/offendersearch.do?method=view. Enter the person’s first and last name. If you already have their OPUS Number, you can enter it directly for a more exact match.
Anson CI is a North Carolina state prison. Anyone serving a NC DAC sentence there will appear in the OPI database. The search covers all NC state facilities, so if the person has been transferred, the current facility will reflect wherever they are now.
What the Search Shows
A result includes the person’s name, OPUS Number, and current facility. It may also show custody level, projected release date, and other basic information. The OPUS Number is the key piece. Save it. You will use it for every ConnectNetwork deposit, every TextBehind letter, and the visitor application form.
What Each Field Means
Name: Full legal name as recorded by NC DAC.
OPUS Number: The unique ID assigned to each person in NC state custody. Required for all contact and deposit transactions.
Current Facility: The prison where the person is housed right now. Confirm this reads “Anson Correctional Institution” before visiting or sending anything.
Custody Level: Close, medium, or reentry. Custody level affects visiting procedures at Anson CI. See the visitation guide for details on close custody restrictions.
Projected Release Date: An estimated date based on the sentence. Subject to change.
If You Cannot Find the Person
A few situations can cause someone to not appear or show a different facility:
Recently sentenced or transferred: Records can take one to two days to update. Try again the next day.
Spelling variation: Try alternate spellings of the first or last name.
Still in county custody: If the person was just sentenced and has not yet transferred from the county jail, the NC DAC record may still be processing.
Temporarily moved: Medical transport, court appearances, or processing can show a different or incomplete location temporarily.
If none of these apply, call Anson CI directly at (704) 695-1013 and ask whether the person is in custody there.
Confirming Location Before You Visit or Send Money
Before driving to Polkton or making a deposit, run a quick OPI search to confirm the person is still at Anson CI. Transfers do happen. If the search shows a different facility, contact that facility directly and update any pending deposits or mail accordingly.
Daily Roster Information
Anson CI does not publish a public daily roster. The NC OPI database is the official way to confirm someone’s location and custody status. Check it before any in-person visit.
