How to Send Money to Avery-Mitchell

There are four ways to deposit money, and each has a different fee structure. Only approved visitors can make deposits, so make sure you are on the approved list before you try. You will need the person’s full legal name and OPUS number every time.

Option 1. Online Through ConnectNetwork.com (Fastest)

Go to ConnectNetwork.com and create a free account if you do not have one. Then:

1. Search for Avery-Mitchell Correctional Institution or select NC DAC from the facility list.
2. Enter the person’s full legal name and OPUS number.
3. Choose the deposit amount.
4. Pay with a debit or credit card.
5. Review the fee before you confirm.

Online fees: between $2.48 and $8.16 depending on the deposit amount. Deposits typically post within a few hours.

Option 2. By Phone

Call one of the two phone lines depending on what type of deposit you want to make:

• Trust Fund deposits: 888-428-1845
• AdvancePay (prepaid calling account): 800-483-8314

Have the person’s OPUS number and your payment card ready. Phone fees range from $3.27 to $8.95 depending on the deposit amount and type.

Option 3. Western Union

Send money through Western Union using the code NCDAC TRUST. The fee is a flat $3.00.

You will need the person’s full legal name and OPUS number. Use the Western Union location finder at westernunion.com or through the Western Union app to find a nearby location.

Option 4. Money Order (Free)

Mail a money order made out to TouchPay Holdings LLC and send it to:

There is no fee for money orders. This is the lowest-cost option if you are not in a hurry. Write the person’s full legal name and OPUS number on the memo line of the money order. Processing times are longer than online deposits, so allow extra time.

What the Money Pays For

Money deposited through ConnectNetwork goes to the person’s trust or commissary account. It covers:

• Commissary: food items, hygiene products, writing supplies, and other approved purchases available through the facility store
• Phone calls: calls through ViaPath/GTL run at $0.10 per minute. See the phone calls guide for how that works
• Other authorized purchases within the facility

Who Can Make Deposits

Only approved visitors are allowed to make deposits at Avery-Mitchell. If you are not on the approved visitor list, your deposit may be rejected.

What to Do If a Deposit Fails

If a deposit does not post, check the following:

• Make sure you entered the correct OPUS number. An incorrect number is the most common reason deposits fail.
• Confirm the person is still at Avery-Mitchell using the NC OPI inmate search. If they transferred, deposits may need to be directed to their new facility.
• Call ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249 for help.

What Happens When Someone Transfers

If the person transfers to another facility, their account balance typically follows them. Contact ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249 to confirm the balance transferred and find out how to deposit at the new location.

Deposit Limits

NC DAC may apply limits on how much money a resident can hold in their account at one time. If a deposit is rejected because of an account limit, call support at 877-650-4249 for details.
