Three Ways to Send Money
Catawba County Detention Facility gives you three ways to put money on someone’s account.
Option 1: Online at JailPackStore
Go to store.jailpackstore.com and create a free account. Search for Catawba County Detention Facility, enter the person’s inmate ID number and name, choose an amount, and pay by credit or debit card. The fee is shown before you confirm.
This is the fastest option if you are not near the facility and want to avoid mailing a money order.
Option 2: Lobby Kiosk
The JailPackStore kiosk is located in the lobby of Catawba County Detention Facility at 100 Government Drive in Newton. It accepts cash and credit cards. Enter the person’s inmate ID number to complete the deposit.
Kiosk hours align with facility access. If you are unsure when the lobby is accessible, call (828) 465-8999 before making the trip.
Option 3: Money Order by Mail
Make the money order payable to the inmate’s full name. Write the Inmate ID number in the memo line. Mail it to:
Catawba County Detention
Attn: Trust Funds
P.O. Box 385
Newton, NC 28658
Mail rules for money orders:
- Money orders only. No personal checks. No cash.
- Make out to the inmate’s full name.
- Write the Inmate ID# clearly in the memo line.
- Processing time will be longer than online or kiosk deposits.
Deposit Fees
JailPackStore charges a flat fee based on the deposit amount. Fees apply to online and kiosk deposits.
| Deposit Amount | Fee |
|---|
| Up to $25.00 | $3.95 |
| $25.01 to $100.00 | $6.95 |
| $100.01 to $200.00 | $8.95 |
| $200.01 to $300.00 | $10.95 |
The fee is shown before you confirm any transaction, so you will know the total cost upfront.
The $300 Maximum
The maximum deposit per transaction is $300. If you need to send more over time, you can make additional deposits, but each transaction is capped at $300.
What You Always Need
The inmate ID number. Every deposit method requires it. Do not try to send money without it. A deposit with the wrong ID can be delayed, misapplied, or returned.
Find the inmate ID number on the free Who’s In Jail roster at injail.catawbacountync.gov/WhosInJail/. See the inmate search guide for step-by-step instructions.
What the Money Covers
Money deposited through JailPackStore goes to the person’s trust account. It can be used for:
- Commissary: Pre-packaged items ordered through store.jailpackstore.com (see the Commissary Packs section below).
- Phone time: Calls through Pay Tel Communications. See the phone calls guide for how Pay Tel works.
- Video visits: Remote Pay Tel video visits cost $3.50 per 15 minutes and are paid through the Pay Tel account. If the person is paying for calls from inside, funds flow from their trust account.
Commissary Packs Through JailPackStore
JailPackStore also lets you order pre-packaged commissary packs for the person inside. Packs are pre-defined and come in categories including:
- Candy and snacks
- Chips
- Meats and seafood
- Writing supplies
- Hygiene kits
- Underwear
Packs range from approximately $11 to $27. There is a $4.95 shipping fee per order. You must have an account at store.jailpackstore.com and a card on file to order. The person inside picks up items through the facility commissary process.
To order commissary packs, log in to store.jailpackstore.com, find Catawba County Detention Facility, and browse the available packs. Select items and check out just as you would for a regular online purchase.

Account Holds and Restrictions

What Happens to Funds if the Person Is Transferred or Released
If the person is transferred, contact JailPackStore at (800) 822-9388 to ask about transfer procedures. Funds may not automatically follow to a different system. If the person is released, remaining funds are typically disbursed by the facility according to their policy, which may include a check or cash at release.
