What We Know and What to Confirm
We want to give you accurate information so you do not make a wasted trip. Here is what is confirmed from official sources, and what you need to verify directly with the facility.
Confirmed:
- Video visitation is available at the facility lobby with on-site video stations.
- All seven housing pods have video visitation booths.
- PayTel tablets are in use for calls and messaging, which typically include remote video visit capability.
Unconfirmed (call to verify):
- Exact visiting hours and days.
- Whether in-person contact visits are available.
- Remote video scheduling steps and fees through PayTel.
- Rules for minors visiting.
- Dress code requirements.
Call the visitation lobby at (910) 893-0240 before traveling. This is the direct line to the visitation desk. Staff can tell you exactly what is available, current hours, and how to schedule.
Video Visitation at the Facility
The lobby has on-site video stations where you come to the facility at 175 Bain Street, Lillington, and visit the person through a video screen. You are inside the building, but not in the same room as the person you are visiting. Every housing pod also has video visitation booths built in, so visits happen through the facility’s system.
What to bring when you come to the facility:
- A valid government-issued photo ID. This typically means a state driver’s license, state ID card, U.S. passport, or military ID. Call (910) 893-0240 to confirm what IDs are accepted.
- Arrive early enough to sign in before any scheduling cutoff.
What to ask when you call (910) 893-0240:
- What days and times can I schedule a video visit?
- How far in advance do I need to book?
- How long is each visit?
- Is there a cost?
- What ID do I need to bring?
- Are there any restrictions on who can visit?
Remote Video Visits from Home
Harnett County uses PayTel tablets throughout the facility. PayTel’s tablet platform typically includes a remote video visit feature that lets family members visit from a smartphone, tablet, or computer at home without traveling to Lillington.
To set up remote video visits through PayTel:
- Go to paytel.com and create a free account.
- Add the person’s name and facility (Harnett County Detention Center).
- Check the PayTel platform for video visit scheduling options.
- Call (910) 893-0240 to confirm remote video visit availability and cost.
Remote video visits typically run a set fee per session. All sessions are monitored and recorded.
Unconfirmed Hours
Third-party sources list the following hours, but we could not confirm these from an official Harnett County Sheriff source. Treat these as a starting point only:
| Days | Unconfirmed Hours |
|---|
| Monday through Friday | 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM |
| Saturday and Sunday | 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM |
Do not travel based on these hours alone. Call (910) 893-0240 to get the current schedule. Hours can change based on staffing, lockdowns, or facility policy updates.
Whether Harnett County Detention Center allows in-person contact visits (where you and the person are in the same room or visit through glass) has not been confirmed from an official source. Call (910) 893-0240 and ask directly: “Are in-person contact visits available, and if so, how do I schedule one?”
Visiting with Children
If you plan to bring a minor, call (910) 893-0240 before visiting. County jails typically require:
- Proof of relationship (birth certificate or notarized permission form)
- An adult who is an approved visitor to accompany the child
- The child must be on the approved visitor list
Do not bring a child to the facility without confirming the rules first. Requirements vary and can change.
What’s Not Allowed
Standard county jail visitation rules apply. You should expect:
- No personal items in the visitation area
- No exchanging anything with the person inside
- No visiting if you appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- No recording of the visit
Violations can result in your visit ending early and your visitation privileges being suspended. Call (910) 893-0240 to ask about the complete list of rules.
Dress Code
Many county jails have dress code rules for visitors. Common restrictions include no clothing that resembles inmate attire (orange, stripes), no revealing clothing, and no open-toed shoes. We were not able to confirm Harnett County’s specific dress code from an official source. Call (910) 893-0240 and ask before you travel.
If the Person Is Not Showing in the Roster
Before making the drive to Lillington, check the inmate search at cc.southernsoftware.com/bookingsearch/index.php?AgencyID=HarnettCoNC to confirm the person is still in custody. Transfers and releases happen without advance notice. A quick search before you leave saves a wasted trip.
Getting to the Facility
Harnett County Detention Center is at 175 Bain Street, Lillington, NC 27546. Lillington is the county seat of Harnett County, roughly 40 miles south of Raleigh. There is no major public transit serving Lillington, so most visitors drive. Plan for parking near 175 Bain Street and give yourself extra time to find it and complete check-in before any scheduling cutoffs.
Confirm Before You Travel
Call (910) 893-0240 to confirm everything before making the trip. Ask about:
- Current visiting hours and days
- How to schedule (phone, online, or walk-in)
- In-person visit availability
- Dress code and ID requirements
- Rules for bringing children
- What happens if you arrive late
