How Calls Work at Scotland CI

Calls from Scotland CI go through ViaPath/GTL. The person inside places calls from a facility phone to numbers on their approved list. Each call costs $0.10 per minute and ends automatically at 15 minutes. If the conversation is not finished, they can call back immediately.

You cannot call into Scotland CI and ask to speak with someone. The phone system is outbound only from the facility’s side.

Step 1. Set Up Your AdvancePay Account

AdvancePay is the prepaid account that funds incoming calls. When a call comes in, ViaPath checks your account balance before connecting. If your balance is zero, the call will not go through.

To set up AdvancePay:

  1. Go to connectnetwork.com and create a free account if you do not have one.
  2. Select Scotland Correctional Institution or search by facility.
  3. Add your phone number and payment information.
  4. Add funds. A service fee applies.

Step 2. Make Sure Your Number Is Approved

Your phone number must be on the person’s approved call list before any call will connect. The person at Scotland CI adds numbers through the facility phone system. If you are a new contact, let them know your number so they can request it be added. It may take a day or two to process.

If calls are still not connecting after several days, call Scotland CI at (910) 390-4700 to ask about the call list status.

PIN Debit Option

PIN Debit lets the person use their own commissary funds to pay for calls instead of drawing from your AdvancePay account. The rate is the same: $0.10 per minute. If they have funds in their trust account, they may choose this option when placing a call. You do not need to do anything on your end for PIN Debit calls to work.

Monitoring and Recording

To set up a video visit:

Scotland CI provides tablets through ViaPath. The tablets can be used for voice calls, text messaging, and video. If the person has a tablet, they may have access to on-demand video visits or messaging through the GettingOut platform.
