How to Send Money to Wake Correctional Center

There are four ways to deposit money onto a Wake resident’s account. All methods require the person’s full legal name and their NC OPUS number. Find the OPUS number using the NC OPI inmate search.

Important: NC DAC requires that only approved visitors on the offender’s visitor list may deposit funds. If you are not on the approved visitor list, contact the facility to find out how to start that process before attempting a deposit.

Option 1: Online Through ConnectNetwork.com

This is the fastest method for most people.

  1. Go to ConnectNetwork.com.
  2. Create a free account or log in.
  3. Search for Wake Correctional Center under North Carolina.
  4. Enter the person’s full legal name and OPUS number.
  5. Choose a deposit amount and pay with a debit or credit card.
  6. Confirm the transaction and save your confirmation number.

Fees: Online deposits cost $2.48 for amounts up to $19.99, $5.00 for $20 to $99, $6.58 for $100 to $199, and $8.16 for $200 to $300.

Deposits typically post within a few hours, though processing times can vary.

Option 2: By Phone

Call ViaPath/ConnectNetwork to deposit by phone:

  • Trust account deposits: 888-428-1845
  • AdvancePay deposits: 800-483-8314

Have the person’s name, OPUS number, and your payment card ready. Phone deposits carry fees similar to online deposits. The automated system quotes the fee before you confirm.

Option 3: Western Union

You can send money via Western Union using the NC DAC trust code.

  1. Go to a Western Union location or use westernunion.com.
  2. Use code NCDAC TRUST as the payee.
  3. Provide the person’s full name and OPUS number.
  4. Pay the deposit amount plus the Western Union fee.

Fee: $3.00 per transaction.

Option 4: Money Order (Free)

This is the only method with no fee. Mail a money order made out to TouchPay Holdings LLC to:

TouchPay Holdings LLC PO Box 174 Houston, TX 77001-0174

Write the person’s full name and OPUS number in the memo line. Include a note with the facility name (Wake Correctional Center) so the payment routes correctly.

Allow at least 10 business days for money orders to post. This option takes longer than electronic methods.

What the Money Is Used For

Funds go onto the person’s trust account. From there, they can use it for:

  • Commissary: food, hygiene products, clothing, and other approved items from the facility store
  • Phone calls: through ViaPath/GTL via ConnectNetwork (see the phone calls guide)
  • Video visits: through the Getting Out Visits app
  • Other authorized purchases at Wake

For residents in the work program, the trust account also handles income and restitution tracking. Deposits still go through the same ConnectNetwork process regardless of work status.

Troubleshooting a Failed Deposit

If a deposit does not post within 48 hours:

  1. Check that you used the correct OPUS number. Wrong OPUS is the most common cause of deposits going missing.
  2. Confirm the person is still at Wake using the NC OPI search. If they transferred, the deposit may need to be rerouted.
  3. Confirm you are on the person’s approved visitor list. NC DAC only allows approved visitors to deposit.
  4. Call ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249.
  5. Call Wake at (919) 733-7988 if ConnectNetwork support cannot resolve it. Note: that number is unconfirmed.

What Happens If the Person Transfers

If the person transfers to a different NC DAC facility, their trust account balance generally moves with them. Contact ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249 to confirm account status after a transfer.

Do Not Send Cash

Do not put cash in a letter or envelope. Cash sent through the mail will not reach the person’s account and may be confiscated. Use one of the four deposit methods above.
