Search NJDOC

The NJDOC Offender Search lists people in New Jersey state custody. You accept a disclaimer, then search. Write down the person’s SBI number: letters need it on the first line.

A Drug Treatment Prison

NJDOC calls Mid-State its first licensed clinical drug treatment program. It closed in 2014 and reopened in 2017 for that purpose. The 2025 PREA audit counted about 490 men, at gang minimum and medium custody, in dorm-style housing.

Two Prisons on One Base

FCI Fort Dix, a federal prison, is also on the base. People there are found in the BOP Inmate Locator, not the NJDOC search.

Not the New York Prison

New York also has a Mid-State Correctional Facility, in Marcy. This guide covers the one in New Jersey.

When Records Come Down

People drop off the search one year after their custodial term ends, except people on community or parole supervision for life. Data is refreshed every two weeks.

Writing to NJDOC

Offender questions are not answered by phone. Send them in writing:

New Jersey Department of Corrections
ATTN: Correspondence Unit
PO Box 863

Writing to the State Prison on the Base

Once the NJDOC search shows they’re at Mid-State and not FCI Fort Dix, letters go under code 1404 with their SBI number. Pigeonly lets you type that letter or choose photos on your phone, and we print and mail it.
