The NJDOC Offender Search lists people in New Jersey state custody. You accept a disclaimer, then search. Write down the person’s SBI number: letters need it on the first line.

One Name, Several Units

NJDOC lists everyone at South Woods under one name, but the prison is split into Facility 1, 2 and 3, a Minimum Unit, close custody units and the Extended Care Unit (ECU), which runs as a full hospital with dialysis. The 2026 PREA audit counted about 3,100 men, ages 18 and up.

Southern State Moved Here

When Southern State Correctional Facility closed on July 1, 2022, NJDOC says its population was absorbed into South Woods.

When Records Come Down

People drop off the search one year after their custodial term ends, except people on community or parole supervision for life. Data is refreshed every two weeks.

Reaching Him in Any South Woods Unit
