The Vendor, and the One Service It Lists
ConnectNetwork, operated by ViaPath Technologies, is the phone provider. Its own facility page for the Nassau County Correctional Center lists a single service line: AdvancePay Phone.
That specificity matters. ConnectNetwork sells several products, including trust fund deposits and PIN debit, and its site navigation shows all of them. For this facility it lists only AdvancePay. So do not assume the other products are available here because the company offers them elsewhere.
AdvancePay is a prepaid account held by you, the family member, and funded in advance so that calls from the facility can be connected to your number. It is not money on the person’s books.
Opening an AdvancePay Account
You create the account on the ConnectNetwork website or through its mobile app, choosing Nassau County Correctional Center as the facility and adding the number you want calls to reach.
Calls are placed from inside. Your side of the arrangement is a funded account and a number that is reachable and not blocked, so the call connects when they dial.
Read the Monitoring Rule Before Anyone Gets Creative
This is the part of Nassau’s published material worth quoting closely, because the consequences fall on the person inside.
The county states that all calls other than properly placed calls to legal counsel who have officially registered their specific telephone lines are subject to monitoring and recording at all times.
And then, specifically:
Three way calling, call forwarding, and conference calling of any kind is a violation of Sheriff’s Department inmate telephone rules.
The published consequences are three:
- Disciplinary action against the person in custody.
- Loss of telephone privileges for the person in custody.
- Potential criminal charges for the person in custody and for any other active participant.
That third one reaches you. Families sometimes bridge a call to a third person because it seems harmless and cheaper than a second account. At Nassau it is a rules violation that can end phone contact altogether and, on the county’s own wording, expose everyone on the line.
If somebody else needs to speak to them, the answer is their own AdvancePay account, not a conference call.
Attorneys Have to Register the Line
Legal calls are only exempt from monitoring where the line has been officially registered with the Sheriff’s Department in advance. An unregistered call from a law office is treated as an ordinary call and recorded like one.
Registration goes to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department, Correctional Center, IT/Computer Operations Unit, 100 Carman Avenue, East Meadow, NY 11554. Note the spelling of the street: Carman, with an A, which is how the county writes it in this instruction even though its own mailing address block does not.
The Legal Unit is 516-572-3865.
No Rate Is Published Anywhere
Neither Nassau County nor ConnectNetwork publishes a per-minute rate for this facility. The vendor’s rate information sits behind an account, and the county’s page names the service without pricing it.
Rather than repeat a figure from a directory site, we will say plainly that we could not verify one. Ask when you set the account up, and ask three separate questions, because they are three separate charges: the per-minute rate, any per-call connection fee, and any fee for adding money to the account.
