Phone Calls at Schoharie County Jail

GTL

The Sheriff’s Office lists GTL as the jail’s phone provider. People held make prepaid or collect calls from phones in their housing unit, using a personal PIN.

Call Times and Length

• Calls run 8 AM to 10:30 PM, except during the afternoon shift change.
• Each call lasts up to 15 minutes.
• Everyone gets one free 5-minute call a month.

All calls are recorded, except calls with lawyers.

No Messages Passed On

Messages left for people held are not passed on. The on-duty Sergeant only relays verified emergencies, such as a serious illness or a death in the family.

Tablets and Video Visits

After classification, people held get tablets, available 8 AM to 2 PM and 3:15 PM to 10 PM. Video visits run on the tablets, at the person’s own cost.

After the 15 Minutes Run Out

A call stops at 15 minutes, but a letter can say the rest. Pigeonly prints what you write on your phone and mails it to PO Box 159, with no envelope or stamp to buy.
