Book Ahead, and You Cannot Move It

Visits at the Yates County Jail are scheduled in advance. The Sheriff’s guide is firm: once a visit is scheduled, it cannot be cancelled or moved.

  • You can book only for yourself and people in your household.
  • You must be 18 or older to book.

The First 24 Hours

Someone newly booked is entitled to one 15-minute noncontact visit within the first 24 hours. If that falls on a visiting day, book it in the normal hours and you get the full hour. On other days, book it between 8 AM and 5 PM.

Check In 15 Minutes Early

Check in with the Lobby Officer no later than 15 minutes before your visit. Late arrivals may lose the visit if there is no other slot.

Photo ID: driver’s license, non-driver ID, benefit card, military ID or passport. No ID, no visit, no exceptions. Children use a birth certificate.

Children

Anyone under 18 comes with a parent or legal guardian, who books the visit and stays throughout. A child visiting their own parent can come with any responsible adult over 18. Children stay seated, and toys, blankets, bottles and pacifiers cannot go in.

Lockers are in the lobby. Empty your pockets and remove jewelry, watches, belts and hair accessories. Everyone goes through a walk-through metal detector and a hand wand. Anything you remove cannot go back on. Avoid steel toes and underwire. Implants or a cane need a doctor’s note.

A mouth check may be done, and anyone can be pat-searched.

Dress Code

Conservative clothing only. No skin-tight clothes, tank tops or spaghetti straps, tops showing the chest or waist, short skirts or shorts. Jackets, shawls, hoodie-style sweaters and hats cannot be worn in the room.

In the Room

A kiss and brief embrace at the start and end. Stay seated, no holding hands or reaching over the divider, and the person held cannot hold children. Food, candy and drinks are thrown away before the lobby.

Video Visits

The Sheriff also offers video visitation through gtlvisitme.com. Register yourself and everyone joining the call.

Between Visits

Pigeonly sends printed letters and photos from your phone to the jail.
