About Pigeonly
We started Pigeonly.com to help incarcerated inmates stay in touch with their loved ones and chip away at one of the ways incarcerated people are marginalized. There is clear evidence that maintaining communication with your family and friends helps inmates, particularly in younger populations. So we provide a simple, affordable way to communicate by phone, tablet or computer.
We offer a free, industry-leading locator tool, and the most flexible options for people to find and support their loved ones, and tailor their communication plan with things like photos, postcards, letters, and voice/phone all at the lowest rates possible.
Scholarship Details & Entry
At Pigeonly, we have a passion for social justice reform and making our society more equal and more fair. We’re focused day and night on how we can help loved ones connect when one of them is incarcerated and how we can make it more affordable, more accessible and, well, just better.
We’re looking for current or matriculating students who want to forge their career and their livelihood changing the system by addressing inequity and making our society more fair and just in one or many of the following:
- Criminal Justice
- Law/Pre-law
- Criminology
- Police Science
- Law/Pre-law
- Public Health
- Social Work
- Sociology
- Urban Policy
- Public Policy Analysis
- Local Government Management
Eligible students should submit an essay to scholarships@pigeon.ly answering the following:
“If you had to dedicate the next/first 5 years of your career on one area or topic related to social justice, what would it be? What would you do and hope to accomplish?”
We think you deserve the best shot possible to have a chance to pursue your dream. Unfortunately, dream careers, not to mention college tuition, can be expensive! To help with these costs, we are awarding one student a $2,500 scholarship to put towards his or her education.
Eligible students should submit an essay (maximum 1,000 words) scholarships@pigeon.ly answering the above prompt.
Essays will be judged based on the following criteria: content, style and creativity. One essay per entrant only. Please include your name, college or university at which you are enrolled, mailing and email address.
Deadline
The deadline to apply is May 31, 2021.*
Submissions are now CLOSED, and we’re reviewing essays, will contact the winner on June 28, 2021 via email and announce the winner on social media July 1, 2021.
Who is eligible?
Full-time students over the age of 18 currently accepted to or enrolled at a college or university or graduate school.
How will we announce the winner?
The winner will be featured on Pigeonly’s blog and social media pages. We will post his or her name, photo, school they are attending, along with the winning essay.
