Step 1: Confirm the Person’s Housing Classification and Schedule Slot

Visiting days and times at Citrus County Detention Facility depend on gender and security classification (low, moderate, high, medical, and specific housing units). There are three visiting sessions most days: an early session starting around 7:00 AM, a mid-morning session around 9:45 AM, and an afternoon session around 1:45 PM, but which one applies depends on the inmate’s specific classification. Call 352-527-3332 to confirm exactly which day and session applies before you plan a trip.

Step 2: Schedule the Visit 24 Hours Ahead

Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Call the facility to arrange the date and time slot that matches the inmate’s classification.

Step 3: Check Who Can Visit

Up to 4 people can visit an inmate during a single scheduled visit. Anyone who has been incarcerated within the 365 days before the visit date is not eligible to visit, and visitors cannot jeopardize the security or safety of the facility.

Step 4: Bring the Right ID

Every visitor must show a driver’s license, state-issued photo identification, or a passport at entry. No exceptions are made for visitors without one of these forms of ID.

Visiting With Minors

A natural parent or legal guardian accompanying a minor must present the child’s original birth certificate or legal guardianship papers. If a minor is not accompanied by a natural parent, the minor needs the original birth certificate plus a notarized statement from the natural parent that names who will accompany the child, confirms the child is allowed to enter for visitation, and names the specific inmate being visited. Minors must stay with their accompanying adult at all times. Minors 12 months old or younger are allowed one bottle, one diaper, and one toy during the visit.

Dress Code

Visitors must wear long pants, or a dress or skirt reaching at least to the top of the knee, plus a shirt or blouse with sleeves, underclothes, and shoes. Low-cut blouses, bathing suits, halter tops, tank tops, tube tops, muscle shirts, and miniskirts are not allowed. Jackets or sweaters cannot be used to cover up a sleeveless top. The visitation officer has final say on whether an outfit meets the dress code.

What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Only photo identification and car keys are allowed into the visitation area. Cell phones, cameras, cigarettes, lighters, knives, guns, and handcuff keys are not permitted anywhere in the facility. Purses, wallets, and bags are not allowed in the visitation area either. Leave these items secured in your car. A limited number of lockers are available in the lobby for visitors who can’t leave items in a vehicle, though items that aren’t allowed in the facility at all cannot be stored there either. The facility isn’t responsible for prohibited items brought in.

Security Screening

All visitors and their belongings are subject to search, which may include an electronic or pat search before entry is allowed.

Length and Frequency of Visits

Each visit lasts up to 2 hours, and a visitor may only visit one inmate per visit. Special visits may be arranged on weekends through glass, or at 7:00 AM on weekdays, depending on circumstances.

Parking

Visitor parking is available in the front parking lot. All vehicles must be completely secured while on facility property.
