Krome North Service Processing Center holds people in civil immigration detention, not people serving criminal sentences. Because of that, it does not appear in the FDOC Offender Search or any county jail booking system. Instead, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement runs its own detainee locator system. You can search by the person’s A-Number if you have it, or by their name, country of birth, and date of birth if you don’t. The tool is free and public, but it has real limitations, especially for people recently detained or in the middle of a transfer.
Go to locator.ice.gov/odls/. You have two ways to search:
By A-Number: If you already know the person’s Alien Registration Number, enter it along with their country of birth. This is the fastest and most reliable way to confirm someone’s status and current facility.
By biographic information: If you don’t have the A-Number, enter the person’s full legal name, date of birth, and country of birth. Spelling matters, and names transliterated from other alphabets can return different results depending on how they were entered into ICE’s system at intake.
A successful search typically returns:
The locator system is not a full case file. It won’t show detailed legal proceedings, attorney information, or the reason for detention. For legal case details, contact the detainee’s attorney of record or check with the immigration court handling the case.
Recently detained: There can be a delay of a day or more before a new detainee’s record is fully entered into the locator system.
In transit or recently transferred: ICE moves detainees between facilities, sometimes across state lines, for bed space or processing reasons. A transfer can take time to reflect in the system.
Released or in a different custody status: If someone was released on bond, transferred to removal proceedings outside detention, or moved to a different agency’s custody, they may no longer show as detained at Krome specifically.
Data entry issues: Names entered with different spellings, especially names transliterated from non-Latin alphabets, can cause a search to miss a match. Try variations of the spelling if your first search doesn’t return a result.
Call the Krome detainee information line at (305) 207-2001, available 8 AM to 4 PM. Staff can help confirm whether someone is currently held at the facility. If you need to reach someone urgently outside those hours or the information line isn’t picking up, use the urgent message lines at (305) 207-6424 or (305) 207-2202. Have the detainee’s full legal name, A-Number if you have it, and your own contact information ready.
The A-Number, or Alien Registration Number, is the unique identifier the U.S. government assigns to a noncitizen going through immigration processing. It stays with the person across facilities and proceedings. You’ll need it for the locator system search, for sending a money order, and often for setting up phone account access. If you don’t have it yet, ask the detainee for it during their first outgoing call, or check any paperwork from their arrest or intake if you have access to it.
Krome is not part of the Florida Department of Corrections and is not a county jail. That means the FDOC Offender Search at dc.state.fl.us/OffenderSearch/Search.aspx will not show anyone held at Krome, and neither will Miami-Dade County’s jail booking system. If someone you’re searching for was later transferred from local custody into ICE detention, or the reverse, you may need to check both systems depending on where they currently stand in the process.
Confirm the detainee is still at Krome before sending a money order or letter, since ICE detainees can be transferred between facilities, sometimes to other states, with limited notice. A quick call to (305) 207-2001 before you mail anything can save you time and prevent funds or mail from being delayed or returned.
