How to Search the FDOC Offender Search
The Florida Department of Corrections keeps a searchable public database of every inmate in FDOC custody. Go to dc.state.fl.us/OffenderSearch/Search.aspx to start.
You only need the person’s last name to begin. Enter it in the Last Name field and click Search. If the name is common or you want to see a broader list, enter a partial last name or type % to display all inmates in the system.
The search also lets you filter by first name, DC number, and race if you need to narrow down results with a common name.
What the Results Show
Each search result is a link to the inmate’s full profile. The profile shows:
- Full legal name and any aliases
- DC number (their unique Florida DOC ID)
- Current facility (this is where they are held right now)
- Custody status (active, released, on supervision)
- Current sentence information, including offense and sentencing date
- Projected release date
Write down the DC number. You will need it to send money through Correct Pay, to set up a phone account, and to format mail correctly.
Why Someone Might Not Appear in Search Results
A few situations can cause someone not to show up, even if they are in FDOC custody:
Recently transferred: When an inmate moves from one facility to another, the database may take one to several days to reflect the new location. Keep checking back if you know they were recently moved.
Recently booked: Someone who was arrested recently and has not yet been sentenced is held in a county jail, not FDOC. County jails have separate lookup systems. Contact the county sheriff’s office or use VINE at vinelink.com.
Released or discharged: If the person completed their sentence, they will still appear in the database but will show a released or discharged status.
Search result limit: If you enter a common last name and the search returns too many results, add the first name or a partial first name to narrow it down.
What the DC Number Is and Why It Matters
Every Florida state inmate is assigned a DC number when they enter FDOC custody. This is their permanent identification number throughout their sentence, even if they transfer between facilities.
You need the DC number to send money through Correct Pay, to find the right Visitation Scheduling Form for that specific inmate, and to address mail correctly. Format it as: [Full Legal Name, DC#].
Confirming Before You Visit or Send Money
Before making a trip to Lowell CI, confirm the inmate is still there through the FDOC search. Inmates can be transferred to a different facility with little notice, and you cannot always find out in advance.
The FDOC Offender Search also has a Schedule a Visit button on the inmate’s profile page. This is where you submit the weekly Visitation Scheduling Form (available Monday 5AM to Wednesday 5PM EST).
For release notifications, sign up for VINE alerts at vinelink.com. VINE sends a text, email, or phone call when the inmate is released, transferred, or has a status change.
What to Do If the Person Is Not Found
If you searched and cannot find the person, try these steps before calling the facility:
- Check the spelling. Try a partial name or last name only.
- Search by DC number if you have it. This is the most reliable method.
- Use % in the last name field to confirm the search tool is working.
- If they were recently sentenced, it may take a few days for FDOC to receive them from county jail.
- If you still cannot find them, call Lowell CI at 352-690-8900.
