How Phone Calls Work at FMC Lexington

FMC Lexington uses the BOP’s TRULINCS phone system (also called TRUFONE). Here is what that means for your family:

  • You cannot call the inmate. All calls are outbound only.
  • The inmate dials out from phones in their housing unit using a 9-digit Phone Access Code (PAC).
  • Before they can call you, they must add your phone number to their approved contact list. This is done through the TRULINCS computer terminals inside.
  • Once your number is approved, they can call you during phone hours.

Phone Hours

Time WindowPhone Access
6:00 AM to 11:30 PMAvailable daily
7:30 AM to after 4:00 PM (weekdays)Limited access during work assignments

On weekends and holidays, phone access follows the full 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM window without work-hour restrictions.

Minute Limits

  • 300 minutes per month for all calls combined
  • 15-minute limit per call. Calls automatically end at 15 minutes.
  • Bonus minutes: In November and December, inmates get an additional 100 minutes (400 total).
  • Minutes do not carry over from month to month.

If the inmate runs out of minutes, they cannot make calls until the next month. Coordinate with them to budget their minutes carefully.

How to Get Your Number Added

You do not need to create an account or call anyone to receive calls. The inmate handles everything from inside:

  1. They go to a TRULINCS computer terminal in their unit.
  2. They add your name and phone number to their approved contact list.
  3. Their unit team may review numbers before they’re activated.
  4. Once approved, they call you directly.

You can receive calls on a landline or cell phone. There is no app required on your end.

Cost of Calls

The exact per-minute cost of calls from FMC Lexington is not published in the official handbook. BOP regulates phone rates for federal inmates. Call credits are deducted from the inmate’s commissary account. To help cover call costs, send money to their account using MoneyGram or Western Union.

CorrLinks is the email system for federal inmates. It’s connected to TRULINCS, the same system used for phone calls. Here is how it works:

  • Register free at corrlinks.com (no cost to create an account).
  • You cannot search for the inmate. They must add you from inside.
  • The inmate adds your name and email address from a TRULINCS terminal.
  • You receive an invitation email from CorrLinks. Accept it to connect.
  • Once connected, you can exchange text-only messages. No attachments, no photos.
  • Message limit: 13,000 characters per message.
  • Reading and writing time is billed to the inmate’s commissary account at $0.05 per minute.

What You Cannot Do

  • You cannot call FMC Lexington and be transferred to the inmate.
  • Three-way calls are not permitted. If the system detects a three-way call, it disconnects automatically.
  • You cannot send voice messages or voicemails through TRULINCS.
