Visiting Hours and Rules at Northpoint Training Center

Weekend in-person visits, the approval process, dress code, and how to set up video visits through Securus.

Overview

Northpoint Training Center allows in-person visits on Saturdays and Sundays at three time slots: 8:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. Each visit is two hours. Inmates get four in-person visits per month. You must be on the approved visitor list before your first visit, and which weekend day you can come depends on the last digit of the inmate’s DOC number. The inmate needs to tell you which day applies to them.

Video visits through Securus are also available Monday through Friday. These are scheduled online and run 25 minutes each.

How to Get on the Approved Visitor List

Before you can visit, the inmate must request you as a visitor. You then fill out a visiting information form and mail it to the Warden’s office at Northpoint Training Center, P.O. Box 479, Burgin, KY 40310.

Your form needs to include your full name, mailing address, date of birth, Social Security number, sex, race, and your relationship to the inmate. Immediate family members, up to three additional adults, and one clergy member can be on the list.

You can also coordinate the process by emailing [email protected]. The facility recommends email as a way to get questions answered and schedule visits in advance.

Do not show up before your approval is confirmed. Walk-ins are not permitted.

In-Person Visiting Hours and the Weekend Schedule

Visits are on Saturdays and Sundays at three time slots each day: 8:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. Each session is two hours. Inmates can have four in-person visits per month.

Here is the part that trips up a lot of families: which weekend day you are eligible to visit depends on the last digit of the inmate’s DOC number. Saturdays and Sundays alternate by number. The inmate is responsible for telling you which day applies to them. If you show up on the wrong day, you will be turned away.

Inmates who live more than 150 miles from the facility can request an extended visit. Contact the facility to ask about this option.

What to Bring and What to Leave Behind

Bring your government-issued photo ID. If you are 18 or older, you need ID to enter. Bring car keys, but leave the keychain and any electronic fob in your car. You can bring one coat, one pair of prescription eyeglasses, and necessary medication in an authorized container if you have a medical condition.

Jewelry is limited to one wedding band set and one necklace with or without a religious medallion. No earrings, watches, bracelets, or facial jewelry. No large hoops or dangling pieces.

One debit card per family is allowed for the vending machines inside. The machines do not accept cash.

Do not bring a cell phone, purse, bag, or any outside food.

Dress Code

Wear modest, non-revealing clothing. Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be no more than 2 inches above the knee. No tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, or sleeveless shirts. No spandex, leggings, or yoga pants as your outermost layer, though they are allowed under compliant bottoms.

Avoid clothing with offensive graphics, gang-related symbols, or language that violates community standards. If a staff member determines your clothing is too revealing or inappropriate, you will not be allowed in.

Religious head coverings are permitted but will be subject to a security search.

If you have any doubt about an outfit before making the drive, call (859) 239-7012 and ask.

Physical Contact During Visits

A brief embrace is allowed at the beginning and end of the visit in the designated area. No physical contact during the visit itself. Kissing is not permitted. Children must remain under control and may not run around the visiting area.

How Video Visits Work

Video visits through Securus are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each session is 25 minutes. General population inmates can have up to three video visits per week, on top of their four monthly in-person visits.

To set up a video visit, create a Securus account at securustech.net. The inmate must also register on Securus. Schedule at least 48 hours in advance, and no later than two days before the visit. The name and information you use in your Securus account must match what is on file in the KDOC system.

Video visits are a good option when you cannot make the drive, especially for family members who live out of state.

Transportation Note

Northpoint does not allow visitors to be dropped off at the facility entrance. You need your own transportation and a place to park. Plan your arrival with enough time to clear security and settle in before your time slot starts.
