The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections uses VINELink as its official statewide inmate locator. Search by the inmate’s full name. The system covers all Louisiana DOC-sentenced inmates statewide, including those currently at Elayn Hunt and those who have transferred to other facilities after classification.

There is no separate inmate roster for Elayn Hunt Correctional Center. VINELink is the system to use.

Why Elayn Hunt Is Different

Elayn Hunt serves as the Adult Reception and Diagnostic Center (ARDC) for all of Louisiana DOC. This means:

• Every newly sentenced male inmate enters Louisiana DOC through Elayn Hunt. They arrive here first, before going anywhere else.
• Classification happens here. Staff evaluate each inmate’s security needs, program needs, and health. That process determines where they’ll serve their sentence.
• Stays are temporary. Most inmates transfer to a permanent facility after a few weeks. Some may stay longer depending on their situation.

If someone was recently sentenced and you’re trying to find them, start with VINELink. They’re likely at Elayn Hunt, even if only for a short time. If they don’t appear yet, wait 24 to 48 hours and try again. Processing takes time after a court date.

Who Is at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center?

Elayn Hunt holds Louisiana state DOC inmates. Specifically adult males sentenced by Louisiana courts and entering the state prison system. They are not:

• Federal inmates (search bop.gov/inmateloc/ for those)
• Pre-trial detainees (those are typically held at parish jails)
• Women (Louisiana DOC houses women at separate facilities)

Why Someone Might Not Appear

• Recent court date. If sentencing happened in the last 24 to 48 hours, the record may not be in VINELink yet. Processing takes time after a court date.
• Name variation. VINELink searches by the legal name on file with DOC. Try alternate spellings or last name only.
• Still in transit. Inmates travel from courthouses to Elayn Hunt. There’s often a gap between sentencing and arrival.
• Already transferred. If they’ve completed intake and moved to a permanent facility, they’ll show at that facility’s location in VINELink.
• Released. If the sentence was completed or modified, they may no longer appear as incarcerated.

When to Call the Facility

If someone doesn’t appear in VINELink after 48 hours and you have reason to believe they were sent to Louisiana DOC, call (225) 642-3306. Have their full legal name and any case or DOC ID number you have available.

Elayn Hunt is a temporary stop. When the inmate moves to a permanent facility, VINELink will reflect the new location.
