Securus Technologies handles calls: set up a prepaid account before the first call. The inmate adds your number to their list.
Overview
Phone calls at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center go through Securus Technologies. The inmate must add your number to their approved call list before they can dial you. Setting up a prepaid account through Securus in advance gets you the best call rates and keeps your number ready when they try to call. All calls are outgoing from the facility: you cannot call the inmate directly.

How Phone Calls Work at Elayn Hunt
The inmate makes outgoing calls. You can’t call them. Here’s the full flow:
The inmate adds your number to their approved call list. They can have up to 20 approved numbers. The list is updated quarterly. If your number isn’t on the list yet, they’ll need to wait for the next update window.
You set up a Securus account so calls go through at prepaid rates instead of collect rates.
The inmate calls your number from facility phones during scheduled calling hours.
AdvancePay. You fund an account tied to your phone number. When the inmate calls, the cost is deducted from your balance. Better rates than collect, and it works on cell phones.
Prepaid Calling. The inmate’s commissary account is charged per call. Works if the inmate has enough JPay funds.
Collect calls. Billed to your phone bill. Only works on landlines, not cell phones. Higher per-minute rates.
Recommendation: Set up an AdvancePay account at securustech.net with your cell phone number. This works on any phone and gives you the best rates.
Call Limits
15 minutes per call. A warning tone plays before the line cuts off. The inmate can call back if the conversation isn’t done, subject to available calling time.
300 minutes per month is the standard Louisiana DOC allotment. Inmates on disciplinary status may have reduced monthly limits.
What Not to Talk About
All calls at Elayn Hunt are recorded and may be reviewed by facility staff. Keep conversations away from:
Anything related to pending legal matters or court strategy
Discussions of criminal activity
Anything you wouldn’t want staff to hear
Attorney calls may use a separate designated number that carries privilege protections. Ask the attorney for specifics.
If Calls Aren’t Coming Through
Confirm your number is on the inmate’s currently active approved list, not only submitted
Check that your cell carrier isn’t blocking numbers from correctional facilities (some do). Ask to whitelist the Securus number range.
Verify your Securus account has a positive balance if you’re using AdvancePay
Call Securus support at 1-800-844-6591 for account issues
A Note on Elayn Hunt as a Reception Center
Elayn Hunt is a temporary stop for most inmates. After classification, they transfer to a permanent Louisiana DOC facility. When they move, they’ll need to request that your number be added to their call list at the new facility. The approved list does not automatically transfer. Plan for a gap in calls during any transfer period.
