Why You Must Call First

Most Louisiana DOC facilities post visiting days and times on the LADOC website. Elayn Hunt is an exception. The facility serves as the Adult Reception and Diagnostic Center (ARDC) for all of Louisiana DOC. That means every man sentenced to state prison passes through Elayn Hunt first. Inmates are evaluated, classified, and assigned to permanent facilities. During that process, schedules can shift.

• Your inmate’s current visiting day and time
• Whether the facility is on lockdown or restricted operations
• Any dress code reminders for that visit

Getting on the Approved Visitor List

Elayn Hunt follows standard LADOC visitor approval procedures. Here’s how it works:

1. The inmate initiates it. They contact their case manager or unit officer and ask to add your name to their approved visitor list.
2. You provide your information. Expect to give your full legal name, date of birth, address, and your relationship to the inmate.
3. The facility runs a background check. A criminal history check is standard before approval. Some offenses may disqualify a visitor.
4. Approval notification. Once approved, the inmate will let you know. Your first visit should be confirmed by phone with the facility before you go.

Do not show up without being on the approved list. You will not be admitted.

What to Bring

• Valid government-issued photo ID. Your name on the ID must match your name on the approved visitor list exactly.
• Nothing else that isn’t explicitly needed.

Leave your phone, purse, and valuables in your car or at home. The visiting area does not permit electronics. Dress code rules apply: check with the facility when you call to confirm your visit, since specific rules can vary.

Children and Minors

Children visiting an inmate must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is on the approved visitor list. The child’s parent or guardian is responsible for supervising them throughout the visit. Check with the facility on whether minors need to be listed separately on the visitor form.
