Franklin County Jail Inmate Search. Confirm Custody and Where Someone Is Held

Not a searchable one. Franklin County publishes a Jail Intakes log with booking photos, names, and booking sheets, plus a separate Jail Releases log, both on its own website. You read through them by date instead of typing a name into a search box. To confirm anything, call the jail at (207) 778-3032.

The jail is rated for only 39 people. Lewiston Sun Journal reporting from September 2025 described it as over capacity for two straight months, with Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. pointing to more people held on high bail and about 90% of the population awaiting trial. At that point 11 people were boarded at Somerset County Jail in Madison for $90 a day each, roughly $6,930 a week. By June 2026 the number was down to 2, though the rate had risen to $95 or more per day. Someone missing from the intake log may be in custody elsewhere rather than released. No. The Maine Department of Corrections search tracks its own prisons and its own probation and parole cases. Franklin County runs this jail on its own, so a person awaiting trial or serving a county sentence appears in the county's logs, or in the logs of whichever jail is boarding them, and not in the state tool.

Not yet. Franklin, Androscoggin, and Oxford counties are studying whether to build one shared regional jail to address overcrowding and rising boarding costs. As of mid-2026 this is a feasibility study with a hired consultant, so it doesn't change where anyone is held today.

Come in person to the Franklin County Detention Center with the inmate's name, the bail amount in cash, and the Bail Commissioner's fee in cash. Plan on at least an hour while staff verify the amount and reach a Bail Commissioner.
