Franklin County Jail Visiting Hours. Schedule, Rules & No-Contact Policy

Step 1. Get on the Approved Visitor List

Before any visit can be scheduled, you have to be on the inmate’s approved visitor list. This list is not something a family member fills out from outside the jail. Instead, the person in custody completes a request-for-visitors form during intake and can name up to 6 people. If you’re not sure whether you’ve been listed, call the jail at (207) 778-3032 and ask.

Step 2. Call to Schedule a Visit

Once you’re on the approved list, call (207) 778-3032 at least 24 hours before the day you want to visit. Franklin County Jail doesn’t offer online visit scheduling or walk-in visits. A staff member will confirm the day and time based on the jail’s posted schedule.

Visit Length and Frequency

Each inmate is allowed one 30-minute visit per day, on up to 4 days each week, and total visiting time can’t go over 2 hours in any single week. Up to 2 visitors are allowed at the same visit.

Visiting Hours

Based on the jail’s published daily schedule:

The jail’s own schedule lists a clear end time for Saturday visits but doesn’t publish a stated end time for the Sunday through Friday evening visiting block. Confirm the exact time window for your visit when you call to schedule it, since this can also depend on which housing pod the inmate is assigned to.

No-Contact Visits

Every visit at Franklin County Jail happens without physical contact between the inmate and visitor. This applies across all custody levels, minimum, medium, and maximum. There’s no separate contact-visit option published for any classification.

What to Bring

Franklin County’s published visit policy and Inmate Handbook don’t list a specific dress code or a named list of accepted photo ID types for visitors. As a general rule, bring a valid, government-issued photo ID and dress modestly. If you have a specific question about what’s allowed, such as bringing a diaper bag for an infant or wearing a particular item of clothing, call (207) 778-3032 before you make the trip.

Professional Visits

Attorneys, law enforcement officers, officers of the court, clergy, and counselors can request professional visits outside the standard visiting schedule. Any exception to the regular schedule for a professional visit needs approval from the on-duty Shift Supervisor or the Jail Administrator.

Visiting With Minors

Franklin County’s published materials don’t spell out a separate policy for visits involving minors, such as an age minimum or a requirement for a birth certificate or notarized consent. If you’re planning to bring a child to visit, call (207) 778-3032 ahead of time to ask what’s required.

No Standalone Family Handbook Found… and What Actually Exists

We checked specifically for a downloadable family visitor handbook and a separate visitor application form, per our standard research process. Franklin County does publish a full Inmate Handbook PDF directly on the Sheriff’s Office website, along with a separate Inmate Visit Policy and Procedure document. Neither one is written specifically for family members from the outside, and neither includes a form for a visitor to fill out and submit in advance. If Your Family Member Isn’t Where You Expect

Franklin County Jail holds a rated capacity of only 39 people. When the jail is full, the county boards people at other jails, including Somerset County Jail in Madison. If you can’t confirm your family member is currently at Franklin County Jail, check the inmate search guide before you plan a trip to Farmington, since they may actually be held somewhere else.
