How inteleSCAN Works

The Forsyth County Detention Center uses inteleSCAN for personal mail processing. Here is what that means in practice:

  1. Your letter arrives at 201 North Church Street.
  2. Facility staff or the inteleSCAN service scans the letter and any included items.
  3. The digital scan is delivered to the person on their Pay Tel tablet.
  4. The original envelope, letter, and any photos you included are destroyed. They are not kept or returned.

Your original letter will not be touched by the person inside. They only see the digital version. This is important to know if you are sending something that has sentimental value as a physical object, like a handwritten card or a printed photo, because the person will only receive a digital copy.

What to Include in a Letter

You can write as much as you want in a letter. Keep in mind that all letters are reviewed before being delivered digitally. Do not include anything that would violate facility rules or could be considered a threat or an attempt to introduce contraband.

Include at least one item of return address so that if there is a problem with the letter, you can be contacted.

Sending Photos

Photos included with a personal letter will be scanned along with the letter and delivered as a digital image. The physical photo is not delivered and is destroyed after scanning.

Guidelines for photos:

  • No adult or sexual content
  • No content that depicts violence, weapons, or illegal activity
  • Photos that violate content rules will not be forwarded

If you want to send a greeting card, write your message inside the card and include the full address on the envelope. The card and your message will be scanned.

Books must ship directly from one of these three retailers:

  • Amazon
  • Barnes & Noble
  • Books-A-Million

No other sources are accepted. You cannot bring a book in person or ship it from home. No hardcover books are allowed. Paperbacks only.
