Go to iredellsheriff.com/683/Inmate-Locator and enter the person’s first and last name. The system searches the current jail roster. Results show everyone with a matching name who is in custody at Iredell County Detention Center right now.

What the Search Results Show

When you find a match, the result typically includes:

• Full legal name as it appears in the booking record
• Inmate ID or booking number assigned by the facility
• Booking date and charge information
• Current custody status

Write down the inmate ID or booking number right away. You’ll use it every time you send money through TouchPay, every time you address a letter, and during the visitor approval process. Keep it somewhere easy to access.

What Each Field Means

Charges listed are what the person was booked on. These may change as the case moves through the court system.

If You Can’t Find the Person

There are several reasons someone might not appear:

• Recently booked: The online roster can take up to 24 hours to update after a booking. Try again the next day.
• Name spelling: Try alternate spellings or a partial name search. A middle name used as a first name is a common reason for mismatches.
• Transferred: If the person was sentenced and moved to a state facility, they’ll no longer appear here. Call (704) 878-3131 to ask about a transfer.
• Released: If the person bonded out or was released, they won’t appear in the current roster.

If you’ve tried all of the above, call (704) 878-3131 directly. Staff can check by name and tell you whether the person is currently in custody and where.

Why You Need the Inmate ID

The inmate ID or booking number is the key piece of information that connects your deposit, mail, or visit request to the right person. Here’s where you’ll use it:

• TouchPay deposits: Required when submitting a deposit at gtlfsonlinepay.com or at the lobby kiosk.
• Mail: Put it on every envelope along with the person’s full legal name so mail reaches the right person.
• Visitor registration: The facility uses this number to match visitor applications to the correct inmate record.

Do not send money or mail without confirming the inmate ID first. Deposits or letters without the right number can be delayed, returned, or lost.
