Who Can Send Money
Not everyone can deposit money to someone at Sanford Correctional Center. Only approved visitors on the person’s official visitor list may send funds. If you are not on the visitor list, your deposit may be rejected or the funds may be returned.
If you are not yet on the visitor list, start the visitor approval process first. Once you are approved, you can send money. For help with the visitor list, call the facility at (919) 895-7000.
What Money Covers
Money deposited through ConnectNetwork goes to the person’s trust account. From there, it can be used for:
- Commissary purchases (snacks, hygiene items, clothing, stationery, stamps)
- Phone time (calls go through ViaPath/GTL at $0.10 per minute)
- Other authorized facility purchases
Phone and commissary use the same trust account at Sanford. You do not need separate accounts for each.
Option 1. Online at ConnectNetwork.com
The fastest deposit method for most people.
- Go to ConnectNetwork.com and create a free account (or log in).
- Select “Send Money” and search for Sanford Correctional Center, NC.
- Enter the person’s full legal name and OPUS offender number.
- Enter your deposit amount and payment information.
- Review the fee, then confirm. Funds typically post within minutes during business hours.
Fees for online deposits:
| Deposit Amount | Fee |
|---|
| Up to $19.99 | $2.48 |
| $20.00 to $99.99 | $5.00 |
| $100.00 to $199.99 | $6.58 |
| $200.00 to $300.00 | $8.16 |
Credit card processing fees are $3.00 per transaction when processed by automated system, or $5.94 when processed by a live operator.
Option 2. ConnectNetwork Mobile App
The ConnectNetwork app is available for iOS and Android. Download it from the App Store or Google Play. The steps are the same as the website: log in, select the facility, enter the OPUS number, and deposit. The app is useful if you need to make a quick deposit from your phone.
Option 3. By Phone
Call 800-483-8314 for AdvancePay deposits or 888-428-1845 for Trust or PIN Debit deposits. Have the person’s OPUS number ready. Phone deposits use the same fee structure. The live operator option carries a $5.94 processing fee per transaction.
Option 4. Western Union
You can send money through Western Union using payment code NCDAC TRUST. Western Union charges a $3.00 flat fee. You will need the person’s full legal name and OPUS number. Find a Western Union location at westernunion.com or send from the Western Union app.
Option 5. Money Order
Money orders are the slowest option, but they carry no service fee.
- Make the money order payable to TouchPay
- Write the person’s full legal name and OPUS number on the memo line
- Mail to: TouchPay Holdings LLC, PO Box 174, Houston TX 77001-0174
- Allow up to 10 business days for the funds to post
Do not send cash or personal checks. They will not be processed.
Troubleshooting a Failed Deposit
If your deposit does not post, check the following:
- Wrong OPUS number: Double-check the number against the NC DAC OPI search. A single digit off will cause the deposit to fail or land on the wrong account.
- Not on the visitor list: Only approved visitors can send money. If you were recently added to the list, confirm your approval is active before trying again.
- Name mismatch: The name on the deposit must match the person’s full legal name in the NC DAC system. Use their legal name, not a nickname.
- Account hold or restriction: If the person has a court-ordered financial obligation or a disciplinary hold, some or all funds may be restricted. Contact the facility at (919) 895-7000 for details.
- Transfer: If the person recently moved to a different facility, the deposit may need to be resubmitted for the new location. Confirm their current location with the NC DAC OPI search first.
For direct support, call 877-650-4249.
What Happens to Funds When the Person Transfers
If the person transfers to another NC DAC facility, the trust account balance typically transfers with them. The ConnectNetwork system covers all NC DAC facilities, so you should be able to continue depositing at the new location without creating a new account. If you have trouble after a transfer, call 877-650-4249.
If the person is released, any remaining balance is typically returned to them upon discharge. Contact ConnectNetwork support at 877-650-4249 if you have questions about a balance after release.
What About Court-Ordered Restitution or Fines?
If the court has ordered restitution, victim compensation, or fines, a portion of incoming deposits may be automatically deducted before the person can access the funds. This is a legal obligation separate from ConnectNetwork’s service fees. The facility can tell you if any holds apply: call (919) 895-7000.
Deposit Limits
NC DAC does not publish a per-deposit or per-month cap through ConnectNetwork. The maximum single deposit on the ConnectNetwork platform is generally $300. If you need to send more, you can make multiple deposits. For specific limit questions, call 877-650-4249.
