Is there a Dutchess County inmate search online?
Yes, through VINE, the tool that covers New York county jails. It accepts a name. The county's own jail page links out to the state's locator page.

Dutchess County’s own jail page sends visitors to the state for this question. What follows is which route is quickest, depending on how long ago the arrest happened.
The county’s jail page links out to the New York State Commission of Correction’s locator page.
VINE is the statewide service that covers New York county jails, and it does what most people mean when they say inmate search: you type a name and it tells you whether that person is in custody.
Two things to know before you trust an empty result.
It is not instant. VINE reflects what a county has sent it, and there is a lag between a booking and a record appearing. Somebody arrested this evening will very often not be there yet.
An empty result is not proof. It means the record is not in VINE right now. It does not mean the person is not in a cell in Poughkeepsie.
If the arrest was in the last day or two, ring 845-486-3900 before you spend time refreshing a database.
A staffed jail line can tell you whether somebody was booked well before any system updates, and it can do it in one call. This is the route we would use first for a fresh arrest, and the one that works when the online answer comes back blank.
This is the part that catches families out, and it is specific to this county.
Dutchess boarded people out to other counties for years while the old jail ran over capacity. Opening the Justice and Transition Center in 2024 did not end it. The county reported spending 355,970 dollars on out of county housing during 2024, which was the new building’s first year.
So somebody arrested in Dutchess County can be held in a different county’s jail, with a different address, a different phone system and a different visiting schedule. A search that keeps coming back empty is a reason to ask where they actually are, not just when the record will appear.
The New York State Commission of Correction still lists this facility as the Dutchess County Jail, with the current street address and phone number attached. The county calls it the Justice and Transition Center.
Both names point at the same building at 150 North Hamilton Street. Since the county’s own jail page links out to the state locator, families following that link land on pages using the older name, which reads like a mistake and is not one.
Nothing online is going to help yet. Somebody picked up this evening may still be with the arresting agency rather than at the jail, and the record will not exist in any system until the booking is finished.
Give it a few hours, then ring the jail line. Once you know where they are, Pigeonly can get a letter and photos moving to the county’s published box the same day.

Inmate SearchRing the jail on 845-486-3900. A staffed line will confirm a booking long before it turns up in any database, and in the first day or two that is the only route that reliably works. Online systems lag behind the booking itself.
Inmate SearchYes, through VINE, which is free and takes a name rather than an identification number. Just treat a blank result carefully: it means the record is not in VINE yet, which is not the same as the person not being in custody.
Inmate SearchThree usual reasons. The booking may not be finished, so no record exists yet. The person may still be with the arresting agency rather than at the jail. Or they may be held in another county entirely, because Dutchess still boards people out and spent 355,970 dollars doing it in 2024.
Inmate SearchBecause the New York State Commission of Correction has not updated the name. Its county jails directory still lists Dutchess County Jail at 150 North Hamilton Street with the current phone number. The county renamed the facility the Justice and Transition Center when it opened in March 2024. Same building, two names in official use.
Inmate SearchVINE is built for exactly this and will register you for notifications on custody changes, which is more useful than checking a page every day. For a specific date or a question about conditions of release, the jail line is 845-486-3900.
Inmate SearchThree visiting days, all of them booked at the building.
