Niagara County Sheriff's Office: Incarcerated Individual Search See our sources ›

Niagara is one of the minority of New York counties that hosts a genuine search rather than pointing families at a statewide notification service. One free text box, results sorted newest booking first, and each record carrying a booking photo, a full physical description and a block for every charge with its statute and bail amount. It is a full in-custody roster, not a recent bookings feed.

Visiting is Monday to Thursday and finishes at 2:00 PM, with no Friday, weekend or holiday slots at all. Everything is booked through the vendor's scheduler, seven days ahead and no later than 48 hours before, and the county warns in its own words that the system carries two separate entries for this jail. Picking the wrong one produces a booking that cannot be honoured.

Commissary money runs through Access Corrections, which the Sheriff's Office links directly under an incarcerated individual commissary heading. Bail and fines are separate again, each with its own payment location code in the county's payment system, and the two codes are one digit apart in appearance but entirely different destinations.

Securus Technologies has held the inmate communications contract since March 2021, extended and amended five times since, most recently to comply with a federal order published in December 2025. Tablets arrived in 2021 carrying messaging, photos, video, education and reentry material. The contract also funds video relay services for deaf and hard of hearing people.

6 of 7 questions

Q

What are the visiting hours at Niagara County Jail?

In-person visits run Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM. There is no Friday visiting, no weekend visiting and none on recognised holidays. For anyone working standard hours that is the hardest constraint at this jail, and it is the opposite of the weekend pattern most families expect.

Visitation
Q

How do I reserve a visit?

Through the Securus scheduler rather than the county. You register, submit documentation for facility approval, then schedule a session. Bookings open seven days ahead and close 48 hours before the slot. Choosing between the two facility entries in that system is the step people get wrong.

Visitation
Q

Does Niagara County have an online inmate search?

Yes, and it is a proper one hosted by the Sheriff's Office itself. You type into a single search box and each result carries a booking photo, age, gender, height, weight, race, hair and eye colour, and then a block for each charge with the statute, its description and the bail amount.

Inmate Search
Q

Why are so many people here in federal custody?

Niagara County holds federal detainees under agreement, and the number is unusually high for a New York county jail. State figures for July 2026 recorded 103 federal detainees out of 394 people in house, about 26 percent. If your person is a United States Marshals detainee, they may move on a federal timetable the county does not control.

Inmate Search
Q

Is the jail mail room at the Niagara County Courthouse?

No, and this one matters. The county site lists a mail room at 175 Hawley Street with its own phone number. That is the county government's internal administrative mail room, filed on the county site between Motor Vehicle and Purchasing, about four miles from the jail. A letter posted there goes to county administration, not to your person.

Mail & Photos
Q

Do video visits use up my two in-person visits?

No. The county states that internet visits do not count against the two in-person visits a week, so a family can do both in the same week. There is a fee, which the county describes as modest. A visit terminated part way through is still charged in full with no refund.

Visitation
Q

Which identification will Niagara accept?

A photo ID every time, and it has to be the same one you used when you registered. Not merely a valid ID, the same one. The county accepts a state driver's licence or permit, a non-driver identification card, a military ID, or any authorised government-issued photo identification.
