Oswego County Jail Visiting Hours and Rules

Oswego takes bookings only by telephone and only one day ahead, so a visit here is planned the afternoon before rather than the week before. Connect with your loved one in minutes.

Overview

Oswego publishes a full visitation sheet, dated May 2026, and the shape of it is unusual in one way: everything happens over a single telephone line, one day at a time. There is no portal, no app and no way to hold a slot next week. That makes visiting easy to arrange and easy to lose.

Quick Facts

  • 1 Visits are booked on 315-349-3346, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM

One Phone Line, and One Day’s Notice

Every visit at this jail is arranged by ringing Jail Reception on 315-349-3346, between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Two constraints come with that. Visits are scheduled one day in advance, and only one visit is scheduled at a time, so you cannot book a run of them.

This suits a family living locally and works badly for one travelling from a distance, because you cannot lock in a date a fortnight out. If you are coming a long way, the call you make the afternoon before is the whole plan.

The Four Sessions

SessionTimes
First8:30 AM to 9:30 AM
Second10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Third12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Fourth2:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Each runs an hour. Note the visiting day stops at three in the afternoon, so like a lot of upstate jails this is not a schedule you can fit around a standard working day without taking time off.

Some housing assignments, which the county lists as AKIP, protective custody and close custody, run on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with slots that rotate week to week. If your person is in one of those, the pattern is not fixed and the booking line is the only way to know.

Fifteen Minutes, and It Is a Deadline

You must be signed in 15 minutes before the session starts, not merely present.

That is the rule that turns a long drive into a wasted morning. Treat the session time as fifteen minutes earlier than it says, and leave room for the walk in and the desk.

How Often, and How Many

Each person is allowed one visit per day and two per week, with a limit of two people per visit.

Those two hours belong to your person rather than to each visitor, so a family with several people wanting to come has to divide them up.

Identification

Adults need photo identification, and the county names what it accepts: a valid driver’s licence, a non-driver identification card, a military identification card, or another government issued photo identification.

Bringing a Child, and the Raised Seal

This is the detail most likely to turn a family away at the desk.

A child needs an original birth certificate with an official raised seal. Not a photocopy, not a phone photograph of one, and not a hospital certificate. They also have to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

If the parent cannot come, there is a separate route. The county publishes a Juvenile Permission to Visit form, Form 006, which records the child’s details, the inmate’s name and the parent or guardian’s details. The parent signs it in front of corrections staff, and if the parent is not present it has to be notarised instead. The form carries a perjury warning under New York Penal Law section 210.45, so it is not a formality.

Visitors aged 16 and 17 have to show adequate photo identification every time, and the county says a school identification card will do.

The Dress Code

The county rules out halter tops, tank tops, crop tops and tube tops, short shorts, miniskirts, and shower or beach shoes. Large jewellery and wrist watches are restricted.

These Are Contact Visits

The county allows a brief kiss at the beginning and the end of the visit, which tells you these are contact visits rather than through glass. For a family who has only seen someone through a screen elsewhere, that is worth knowing before you arrive.

If You Cannot Get There Twice a Week

Two one hour slots in a morning window is a hard schedule for anyone working or travelling. The tablet in your person’s housing unit is doing more of the work here than at most jails, because it is where your letters and photographs land as well as where calls are made. Pigeonly sends those to the Syracuse box that feeds it.

Families Also Ask

6 of 9 questions

Q

How do I book a visit at the Oswego County Jail?

Ring Jail Reception on 315-349-3346 between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Visits are booked one day in advance and only one visit is scheduled at a time. There is no online booking and no app.

Visitation
Q

What are the visiting times?

Four hour-long sessions: 8:30 to 9:30, 10:00 to 11:00, 12:30 to 1:30 and 2:00 to 3:00. Some housing assignments run Wednesday to Friday with slots that rotate weekly, so the booking line is the only reliable way to know which applies to your person.

Visitation
Q

How early should I arrive?

You need to be signed in 15 minutes before the session starts. The county states that visitors who fail to do that will be denied, so treat the session time as a quarter of an hour earlier than it reads.

Visitation
Q

How many visits does someone get?

One a day and two a week, with a maximum of two visitors per visit. That allowance belongs to the person inside rather than to each visitor, so a larger family has to share the two slots out.

Visitation
Q

What identification do I need?

A valid driver's licence, a non-driver identification card, a military identification card, or another government issued photo identification. Sixteen and seventeen year olds need adequate photo identification every time, and a school identification card counts.

Visitation
Q

Can I bring my child?

Yes, with an original birth certificate carrying an official raised seal. A photocopy will not be accepted. The child has to be with a parent or legal guardian.

Visitation
Q

What if the child's parent cannot come with us?

There is a Juvenile Permission to Visit form, Form 006, for exactly that. The parent or guardian completes it and signs in front of corrections staff, or has it notarised if they cannot attend. It carries a perjury warning under New York Penal Law section 210.45.

Visitation
Q

What can I wear?

Nothing in the banned list: halter, tank, crop or tube tops, short shorts, miniskirts, and shower or beach shoes. Large jewellery and wrist watches are restricted, so leave them at home rather than discover it at the detector.

Visitation
Q

Is there any physical contact?

Yes, a brief kiss is allowed at the beginning and the end of the visit. These are contact visits, which is not the case at every county jail in New York.
